Job Description: Conducts network architecture design, feasibility and modeling. Designs, analyzes, plans, and modifies network components and/or software by translating customer requirements and objectives into final product design. Develops and evaluates network performance criteria and measurement methods. Prepares analysis of the short-term or long-term capacity needs for switching, routing transmission and signaling. Implementation and support of complex networks.

Essential Functions:

  • Evaluate Space network technologies and designs in relation to the critical infrastructure and service needs for external customers.
  • Work with requirements to define and implement network function in non-standard routers, switches and IPSEC devices.
  • Exercise knowledge of OSI model, packet/frame structure, routing and MPLS.
  • Implement engineered solutions with network function that support system-level requirements, including Quality of Service (QoS) solutions.
  • Document hardware queues, buffers and prioritization schemes.
  • Participate in inter-program working group and cross-technology initiatives and discussions to resolve technical challenges.
  • Create and maintain documentation for network, QoS, protocols and system-level designs.
  • Lead network activities at a program-level, coordinating with the ground network engineer and serving as the program interface for network working groups.
  • Work directly with systems engineers in a range of specialties focused on every aspect of a space mission.
  • Given applicable manual(s), solve issues relating to hardware or software configuration to identify technical issues and resolutions for new non-standard devices.
  • Solve complex configuration issues with leading network vendors such as HP/HPE, Cisco, Juniper, Arista, Palo Alto, Fortinet and F5.
  • Implement complex architectures and work through the security approval process to advance the mission on internal networks and help IT organizations understand the architecture.
  • Work with classified and unclassified cloud connectivity such as AWS or other government facilities.
  • Configure/operate GFE security applications, such as Manticore and Cracken.
  • Configure, implement and troubleshoot complex problems for high assurance encryption devices used in encryption of data in transit (KG family of encryptors).
  • Implement and troubleshoot IP and MPLS networks.
  • Implement network tools, such as NetFlow, Layer 3 VPNs, Pseudo wire, Ethernet switching, encapsulation, IPSEC, TCP and UDP signaling, and CCSDS protocols.
  • Design and implement routing and pathing including OSPFv2, OSPFv3, BGP, MPLS.
  • Define and implement complex solutions in different non-standard devices to meet defined network objectives and management of queues and buffers.

Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor's Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience, with 5-8 years of network engineering lead experience with IP Networks, and 3-5 years supporting MPLS networks. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
  • CCNP or equivalent vendor certification.
  • Active Top Secret Clearance required.
  • Ability to obtain DoD 8140.03 certification, or equivalent NIST 800-181 certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Travel as required for integration and test efforts (up to 10%).

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Use Wireshark, protocol analysis and quality of service tools.
  • Plan, implement, verify and troubleshoot local and wide-area enterprise networks.
  • Perform enterprise network troubleshooting (Multicast, Layer 2, Cisco IOS(s), IP routing [BGP, ISIS, OSPF, and EIGRP], HSRP and physical layer issues [Ethernet, Optical, TDM]).
  • Perform Agile development processes.
  • Perform documentation with Microsoft Office software applications
  • TS/SCI security clearance w/CI Polygraph is highly desired.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range in Massachusetts for this role is $122,000 - $227,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
