About the role, Your Impact

Baxter & Woodman is seeking applicants to work on-site at the City of Houston Public Works in their Wastewater Operations division. This position would require you to provide engineering services for various municipal projects and offers the opportunity to work directly with firm clients.

What your day-to-day will look like, what you will learn on the job

  • Provide on-site engineering services to the City of Houston.
  • Responsible for the collection, conveyance, and treatment of municipal wastewater across the Houston area.
  • Responsible for assisting Project Manager(s) by providing engineering design support on various municipal projects, including wastewater collection system design.
  • Assist with the preparation of construction plans and specifications, design calculations, various engineering reports and feasibility studies, bond application reports, quantity and cost estimates, and schedules.
  • Periodically conduct on-site observation of construction projects progress, take measurements, and coordinate with field project representatives and/or contractors.
  • Work assignments will include working both independently and as part of a team.

Education Requirement

  • B.S. degree in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering

Must-haves, what you will bring

  • Must have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam in the state of Texas or be capable of passing, or transferring, exam within the first six months of employment.
  • Ability to explain technical issues to non-technical municipal staff, property owners, and permit applicants.
  • Knowledge of basic principles and experience with sanitary sewer systems and wastewater collection systems.
  • Ability to travel throughout our service area (own transportation).
  • Strong verbal, computer, organizational, and writing skills.

Compensation The pay range for this role is $74,000 to $77,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, and certifications.
