Job Description Summary
The Cross Cultural Center (CCC) is searching for talented Graduate student employee to assist in elevating the services and support offered by the CCC to our Chapman student population. The CCC Graduate Assistant is responsible for ensuring general administrative office, and programming support while informing students of resources. Assistance with and on emphasis on supporting programs, events and special initiatives while growing a sense of belonging, community, and appreciation of differences on campus to create a welcoming and inclusive environment. Ensuring facility operations are organized and supportive of evolving student needs.
Responsibilities
  • Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the GA will assist in developing and supporting programs, events, and special initiatives that advance Chapman University's efforts towards becoming and creating welcoming and inclusive learning environments.
  • Attend and participate in university-wide events, trainings, and workshops
  • Assist in the planning, implementation, and collaborations of CCC and campus wide programming, including but not limited to presentations, trainings, academic workshops/information/presentations, and identity/cultural national heritage/history months (i.e, LGBTQIA+, Black Native, APIDA, Womens's, Latinx) celebrations and other engagement/social events and programming for the student body
  • Assist full-time staff oversee Student Assistants and promote programs and services to provide support for activities and events taking place in the facility, ensuring all events are implemented in accordance with university policy
  • Demonstrate a willingness to support colleagues across campus (for example, Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, etc.) to encourage the implementation or fulfillment of institutional goals and strategic priorities.
  • Facilitate small group meetings as needed
  • Facilitate presentations requiring public speaking
  • Create and facilitate innovative programs
  • Serve as the office liaison for designated student clubs and organizations and on campus events
  • Participate in recruitment and yielding events in collaboration with the Office of Admissions.
  • Assist with the Office of First Gen & Promising Futures Programs, Early Outreach Initiatives by leading campus tours, participating in student panels, and inspiring K-12 students to pursue higher education.
  • Conduct literature reviews, basic information, and data collection on the latest research surrounding historically underrepresented students in higher education.
  • Develop and disseminate marketing materials for the CCC via Carousel, Panther Connect, and Instagram
  • Ability to work some nights and weekends.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Must be enrolled in a graduate program at Chapman University
  • Experience working with diverse and inclusive initiatives in an academic, professional or student organization/population setting
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a professional office environment
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

Desired Qualifications
  • Effectiveness in establishing rapport with diverse communities of students, staff, faculty, administrators, and community members
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with graphic design software Canva, Panther Connect, Carousel, Instagram, Qualtrics.
  • Eagerness to develop leadership competencies
  • Previous experience, at the graduate or undergraduate level, working directly with cultural resource center and/or diverse/cultural organizations or programming.
