Job description

The Job Join Our Exciting Team. Apply by February 13, 2026, For Priority Review Learn How We Represent San Bernardino County San Bernardino County Counsel is looking for a Civil Law Student Intern who wants to learn how to serve as the County's legal advisor. The selected intern will learn how to provide legal advice on civil matters and how County Counsel defends and prosecutes actions on behalf of the County.

The Intern Will Also Learn How Our Deputy County Counsels: Confer and advise assigned County agencies, departments, boards, commissions, and various special and school districts on legal matters. Prepare written opinions and render informal opinions on legal questions. Research and draft ordinances, contracts, agreements, resolutions, and other legal documents; review the same for legality.

Defend County departments and affiliated entities in litigation, including discovery, motion practice, and trial. The work that the intern may perform, includes, but is not limited to the following: Legal research on issues affecting County departments and affiliated entities. Assist in the preparation of pleadings, briefs, motions, discovery, and depositions.

Assist in the preparation of ordinances, contracts, resolutions, proclamations, and procurement documents. Preparation of summaries of records, deposition transcripts, timelines, trial documents, and trial exhibits. Attend depositions, client meetings, contract negotiations, administrative and court hearings, and trials.

Additional Information About the Position: Student Interns may work up to 29 hours per week throughout the internship period. Applications are invited from candidates seeking a summer-only internship as well as from those interested in continuing the part-time internship beyond the summer, up to a total of 2080 hours for the internship period. Intern positions are temporary and do not attain regular status as a County employee.
