What is a graduate intern?

Graduate interns are individuals who have completed an undergraduate degree and are pursuing or have recently completed a graduate program, such as a master's or doctoral degree. They typically participate in internships to gain practical, hands-on experience in their field of study, often as a requirement of their academic program or to enhance their career prospects. Graduate internships can be paid or unpaid and usually involve more advanced responsibilities than undergraduate internships. These positions help interns apply theoretical knowledge, develop professional skills, and build networks within their chosen industry.

Job description

SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.

SPRING 2027 SILICON ENGINEERING INTERNSHIP/CO-OP

SpaceX seeks extraordinary students to join us for silicon hardware engineering roles in Spring 2027. As a silicon engineering intern, you will work closely with your mentor and other world-class cross-disciplinary teams (systems, firmware, architecture, design, validation, product engineering, ASIC implementation) who will help you apply your knowledge and grow your skills, working on our custom in-house silicon and hardware that is deployed on-orbit, in space. You'll also get to have some fun and network with other interns and employees through optional social and professional events. If you've demonstrated a commitment to academic success and motivation to apply your knowledge outside of the classroom to a very unique application of chip design and development, you are a great candidate! Aerospace experience is not required to be successful here - rather we look for smart, motivated, collaborative engineers who love solving problems and want to make an impact on a super inspiring mission.

Internships are available with a variety of silicon engineering teams across the company at Irvine, CA; Palo Alto, CA; and Redmond (Seattle), WA.

  • Experience with Timing, Synthesis, Ansys, COMSOL
  • Strong interpersonal skills (examples: leading a student organization or working successfully in teams)
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment with changing needs and requirements
  • Ability to work independently and in a team, take initiative, and communicate effectively

  • Able to work full time, onsite for a minimum of 12 consecutive weeks beginning in January or March 2027

PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS:

VEHICLE

  • DRAGON : The Dragon spacecraft is capable of carrying up to 7 passengers to and from Earth orbit, and beyond. It is the only spacecraft currently flying that is capable of returning significant amounts of cargo to Earth and is the first private spacecraft to take humans to the space station.
  • FALCON : The Falcon program tackles space exploration's toughest problems through the ongoing development of our reusable launch vehicles, Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy. These vehicles are currently responsible for delivering commercial, national security, and NASA satellites into orbit, as well as supply critical science, supplies, and crew to the International Space Station.
  • STARSHIP: The Starship spacecraft and Super Heavy rocket - collectively referred to as Starship - represent a fully reusable transportation system designed to carry both crew and cargo to Earth orbit, the Moon, Mars and beyond. Starship is the world's most powerful launch vehicle ever developed, designed to carry more than 100 metric tonnes to orbit in a fully reusable configuration and powered by our Raptor and Raptor Vacuum (RVac) engines, which are designed for use in the vacuum of space.
