Purpose
This position performs water resources engineering duties, including data input for water and sewer hydraulic computer modeling and for GIS water lateral material inventory.
Essential Job Functions
  • Performs water resources computer modeling activities.
  • Performs computer modeling data input.
  • Reviews civil engineering system design and operations such as drinking water improvements, sanitary sewer improvements, storm water & drainage improvements, and similar public works projects.
  • Directs or prepares project computations and drafting.
  • Reviews construction plans to identify needs, design problems, and compliance to standards, including compliance of projects with environmental protection laws.
  • Participates with City Staff and outside agencies and contractors for communication of project(s) information.
  • Maintains performance of modeling through routing reports and data compilation and graphics designed to simulate system operations.
  • Works with Operation Departments in monitoring, maintenance, reporting functions based on user needs, provides remote, and on-site software support as needed.
  • Works with Civil Engineer to calibrate models, and test transmitting units for information gathering from well sites, major storm water pumping stations, sewage lift stations (maintain historical database for draw-down tests
  • Performs GIS functions, and data analysis.
  • Participates with City Staff concerning inquiries from property owners, City personnel, the general public, and/or other interested parties.
  • Utilizes GIS information to compile inventory of existing water service laterals materials as required per EPA's new Lead and Copper Revised Rule
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Must be currently enrolled in an engineering program at an accredited college or university and have successfully completed at least two+ years of engineering study. Additional coursework in environmental studies is helpful, but not required. A valid driver's license is desired.
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
Additional Requirements, Background investigation, including supervised drug screen, post offer/pre-employment medical screen; and verification of education, certifications, and licenses required prior to employment.

This internship will run June -July 2026
This position is not eligible for any benefits from the City of Savannah at this time.
