POSITION SUMMARY

Chadwick School seeks an Assistant Tennis Coach to assist in managing and guiding all aspects of the tennis program. The ideal candidate has experience coaching or playing competitive tennis, demonstrates strong leadership and communication skills, and is committed to fostering a positive team culture that emphasizes skill development, teamwork, character, and student leadership.

Athletic program staff members work closely to create a high-quality, coherent athletic experience that develops lifelong learners, resilient competitors, and global citizens with exemplary character, self-knowledge, and the ability to lead.

ASSOCIATED RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with the Head Coach to plan, organize, and conduct regular practices focused on individual skill development and tennis tactical strategies.
  • Teach and model the school’s core values of respect, responsibility, honesty, fairness, and compassion on and off the court.
  • Assist with in-game management, statistical tracking, film review, and strategic adjustments during competitive contests.
  • Oversee the safety, supervision, and well-being of student-athletes during practices, games, travel, and team activities.
  • Communicate promptly and professionally with student-athletes, families, and athletic staff.
  • Support lower-level teams (JV/Frosh-Soph) to ensure vertical alignment and cohesive skill progression across the entire tennis program.
  • Assist in maintaining tennis equipment, uniforms, and facility preparation.
  • Demonstrate an ability to proactively reflect on and participate in discussions around identity, race, and issues of social justice as they relate to athletics
  • Participate in relevant department meetings, training, and school events as requested.

REQUIRED AND PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCES, AND SKILLS

  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English and strong organizational skills are required.
  • A bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required.
  • Prior experience coaching high school athletes in lacrosse is preferred.
  • Prior playing experience at the high school, collegiate, or professional level is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of lacrosse fundamentals, strategies, and safety practices is required.
  • A student-centered, collaborative, and inclusive approach to coaching is required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT

  • Required to lift and carry up to a maximum of 25 lbs., in a correct manner consistent with the appropriate training provided by the School.
  • Occasionally required to use hand to handle or feel objects, touch and use tools, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, bend, stoop, twist, lift, reach, push, pull, grasp, balance, kneel, crouch, crawl, grasp, talk, hear, and walk during the course of employment.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and an ability to adjust focus.
  • May use telephone, computer, copier, and other office equipment in the course of a day.
