Description:  Coach Winter 2026-2027
Requirements for New and Returning Coaches:
 




  • A valid New York State teaching certificate in Physical Education (K-12) or another classroom subject area, a Professional Coaching Certificate, or eligibility for a Temporary Coaching License, valid and acceptable First Aid, CPR, and AED certificates for coaches at the time of appointment.
  • The following coursework is required and must be completed prior to being appointed as a coach:
    • Identification and Reporting of Child Abuse
    • SAVE
    • DASA
    • Concussion
  • Willingness to enroll in and complete the Coaching Course Options - NFHS Coach Certification Program within the first two years of coaching.
  • Please view attachment to this posting which contains current information regarding acceptable providers for the requirements listed above.
  • All new employees must be fingerprinted and cleared for employment through the NYS Education Department before employment begins.  The new employee is responsible for the fingerprinting fee of $102.00.

 
Coaching Selection Criteria:

  • Years of overall coaching experience;
  • Years of coaching experience in a specific sport;
  • Years of coaching experience at various levels (Youth Organizations, Modified, Junior Varsity and/or Varsity)
  • Performance in previous coaching positions;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and positively with students and parents;
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage a strong grade 7-12 athletic program;
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee an in-season and off-season conditioning and strength program;
  • Demonstrated ability to expand and develop an in-community feeder program;
  • Demonstrated ability to develop a unified and committed coaching staff;
  • Demonstrated ability to emphasize academics sportsmanship, and chemical-free sports participation;
  • Demonstrated ability to encourage multiple sport participation by team members


As per the Hiring of Scholastic Coaching form, the interview and selection process will adhere to contractual language that indicates, 'Other factors being substantially equal, first consideration shall be given to the most senior applicant from the District.*
