Job description

POSITION TITLE: Junior Accountant
REPORTS TO: Accounting Manager
DEPARTMENT: Accounting

Position Summary:
The Junior Accountant is an entry-level member of the Accounting team who supports day-to-day accounting activities, with a primary focus on accounts payable and additional support across general accounting functions. The position helps maintain accurate financial records through invoice processing, vendor support, reconciliations, general ledger activities, and month-end processes.

This role is designed for a recent graduate or individual early in their accounting career who is looking to develop practical accounting experience and grow their knowledge within a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the accounts payable process, including invoice review and processing, payment preparation, vendor account maintenance, and resolution of routine vendor inquiries or discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate accounts payable records and supporting documentation, and coordinate with Purchasing, Receiving, and other departments to obtain information needed for timely and accurate invoice processing.
  • Assist with general ledger entries, bank and balance sheet reconciliations, and other routine accounting activities.
  • Support month-end and year-end closing activities, including preparation of basic reports, schedules, and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with inventory, cost accounting, and other general accounting activities as assigned.
  • Support internal and external audit requests and maintain organized accounting records in accordance with company procedures.
  • Learn and utilize the company's ERP and accounting systems and provide general support to the Accounting team as responsibilities develop.
  • Provide general support to the Accounting team and take on additional accounting responsibilities as knowledge and experience develop.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Basic understanding of accounting principles.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Ability and willingness to learn ERP and accounting systems.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong willingness to learn and develop within the accounting field.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Entry-level position; prior professional accounting experience is not required.
  • Internship, co-op, or other relevant accounting experience is preferred but not required.
  • Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.

Other Details:

  • Work Environment: Office-based environment with occasional visits to the manufacturing floor or other company locations as necessary.
  • Physical Demands: Primarily sedentary work; occasional standing, walking, and lifting of materials up to 25 pounds.
