Job Description: Grading Heavy Equipment Operator
We are seeking a skilled and dependable Grading Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. As a Grading Heavy Equipment Operator, you will play a crucial role in our site development and earthwork operations. We are looking for someone who is proficient in operating a range of equipment including Motor Graders, Dozers, Excavators, Skid Steers, Rollers, and Loaders. Responsibilities:
  • Maintain a clean and organized jobsite, ensuring a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Safely operate various grading and earthmoving equipment, including motor graders, dozers, excavators, skid steers, rollers, and loaders.
  • Perform rough and finish grading activities in accordance with project plans, specifications, and grade stakes.
  • Shape and prepare subgrades, slopes, ditches, and drainage structures to required elevations and tolerances.
  • Remain vigilant of surroundings and blind spots, including people, powerlines, underground utilities, and other equipment, to prevent accidents.
  • Read and understand grade stakes, site plans, and GPS/machine control systems when applicable.
  • Coordinate with foremen, survey crews, truck drivers, and other team members to maintain production and quality standards.
  • Properly excavate, move, stockpile, and place materials while minimizing waste and maintaining site integrity.
  • Conduct daily pre-shift equipment inspections and report maintenance or repair needs to the supervisor.
  • Keep equipment clean and well-maintained, including checking fluids, hydraulics, tracks, tires, and greasing as necessary.
  • Park equipment in designated safe areas determined by the foreman, considering the safety of employees, the traveling public, and support personnel.
  • Assist with site layout, grade checking, and other construction activities as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Two (2) years of grading, sitework, earthmoving, or heavy civil construction experience (preferred).
  • Experience operating motor graders, dozers, excavators, or similar heavy equipment.
  • Ability to perform rough grading and finish grading to meet project specifications.
  • Effective leadership skills to motivate and work alongside crew members while maintaining a safe and productive work environment.
  • Physical ability to meet the demands of the job.
  • Strong teamwork skills with the ability to work collaboratively and establish positive relationships with peers.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills to maintain efficient operations.
  • Professional and respectful demeanor, with the ability to engage employees in a team-oriented manner.
  • Satisfactory motor vehicle record (MVR) and meeting minimum company standards for driver qualification.
