Job description

MATCHBOOK LEARNINGWendell Phillips School 63 | Indianapolis, Indiana

Fourth Grade Teacher
1 Position Available | Salary Range: $51,500-$83,000 | Full-Time

Our Vision

At Matchbook Learning, our vision is simple: every child is known, loved, and flourishing. We are a tuition-free public charter school proudly rooted in the Haughville neighborhood of Indianapolis, serving Kโ€“8 students at Wendell Phillips School 63. Our students come with high needs and extraordinary potential โ€” and our staff shows up every day to meet both.

Half of our student population are Multilingual Learners. We serve students with a wide range of learning needs and we are proud to be in this community. You will be surrounded by a visible, supportive administration, a strong instructional coaching team, a dedicated MLL director, a large restorative team, and colleagues who put kids first.

About This Role

We are hiring two passionate Fourth Grade teachers to join our elementary team. You will build the foundational academic and social-emotional skills that define a student's relationship with school โ€” delivering 100% of your instruction using provided, standards-aligned curriculum so your energy goes into knowing your students and executing with excellence.

Our fourth grade classrooms are joyful, high-expectation environments. You will be fully supported by coaches, a visible administration, and a team of dedicated teachers who love this work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver daily ELA and Math instruction using school-adopted curriculum with 100% fidelity
  • Use assessment data from weekly/bi-weekly data cycles to drive instruction and small-group work
  • Implement SIOP-aligned instructional strategies to support Multilingual Learners
  • Conduct regular student conferencing to know each child as an individual learner
  • Maintain a structured, positive classroom using school-wide PBIS systems
  • Actively participate in coaching cycles, feedback sessions, and professional development
  • Build proactive, authentic relationships with families through consistent communication
  • Collaborate with restorative team, MLL director, SPED staff, and intervention teachers
  • Support morning circles (launching 2026โ€“2027) and school-wide culture initiatives
  • Maintain accurate student records and enter grades in a timely manner

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in any field
  • Valid Indiana teaching license OR enrolled in / willing to enroll in a state-approved transition-to-teaching program
  • Genuine growth mindset and openness to coaching and feedback
  • Commitment to equity, high expectations, and serving students with high needs

Preferred:

  • Prior experience working with elementary-aged students
  • Experience or coursework in early literacy, phonics, or reading instruction
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

Professional Development & Support

Matchbook Learning invests deeply in its teachers. Our professional development is intentional, ongoing, and directly connected to what happens in classrooms every day. You will receive:

  • Weekly or bi-weekly data cycles โ€” every teacher always knows exactly where students are and what comes next
  • Structured coaching and feedback from instructional coaches and a highly visible administration
  • SIOP-aligned training to effectively teach and support our large Multilingual Learner population
  • Robust bilingual support throughout the school โ€” bilingual staff, resources, and systems to fully serve our Spanish-speaking students and families
  • Classroom management systems, PBIS support, and positive behavior reinforcement frameworks
  • Student conferencing structures โ€” building authentic relationships with every student
  • Morning circle coaching and support (K-8) launching 2026-2027
  • PGP credits available for license renewal
  • Full support for educators enrolled in, or willing to enroll in, a state-approved transition-to-teaching program

You will not go it alone. Our leadership and support structure includes:

  • Assistant Principal of Academics & Tier 1 Instructional Systems
  • Director of Student Support, School Culture & Tier 3 Behavior
  • Two School Counselors
  • Director of Competency-Based Learning
  • Data & Assessment Coordinator
  • Dean of Students
  • Dedicated Restorative Team
  • MLL Director with dedicated ongoing language support
  • Large bilingual staff throughout the building โ€” a genuinely welcoming environment for Spanish-speaking students and families
  • Engagement & Events Coordinator
  • Instructional Coaches embedded throughout the school
  • Two MLL Academic Specialists providing push-in support for Multilingual Learners
  • Special Education Coordinator and a large, dedicated Special Education team
  • Instructional Assistant dedicated to producing and collecting materials for teachers

A Whole-Child School

All students Kโ€“8 at Matchbook Learning receive Music, Physical Education, PLTW (Project Lead The Way), and College & Career Readiness classes as part of their school day. Our students graduate eighth grade having already chosen a career pathway โ€” entering high school with purpose, direction, and skills ready for today's workforce.

What We Expect

  • A genuine growth mindset โ€” you welcome coaching, feedback, and continuous improvement
  • 100% curriculum fidelity โ€” materials are provided. You internalize and execute them with excellence. You do not produce your own materials.
  • Proactive, authentic family communication โ€” you build real relationships with parents and guardians
  • Reliability and attendance โ€” your students and teammates count on you
  • Commitment to knowing every student as an individual
  • Enrolled in, or willingness to enroll in, a state-approved transition-to-teaching program if not yet fully licensed
