Job description

Position Summary

Samsung, a world leader in advanced semiconductor technology, is founded on a simple philosophy - the endless pursuit of excellence will create a better world for all. At Samsung Austin Research and Development Center (SARC) and Advanced Computing Lab (ACL), we are building a center of excellence for Intellectual Property (IP) that is applied to high-performance computing devices (mobile, automotive, and other custom market segments) consumed by millions of people around the world. Come build with us!

Role and Responsibilities

As a Staff GPU Architect, you will help shape the future of advanced GPU architecture for Samsung's Exynos chipset.

In this mid-to-senior individual contributor role, you will redefine what's possible in graphics by contributing to architectural strategy and hands-on development of next-generation GPU designs. You bring expertise in GPU pipelines, hardware design, and computer architecture, with a curiosity to deliver high-performance, power-efficient, and scalable GPUs.

  • You are passionate about defining, developing, and implementing new SoC architectures and features for premium mobile and related product platforms.
  • You enjoy learning about end-to-end design and optimization of GPU architectures, balancing performance, power, and area (PPA), while anticipating emerging applications such as ray tracing, AI, and AR/VR.
  • You ensure design excellence by contributing to technical roadmaps, supporting product planning, and help evaluating long-term GPU architecture strategy.
  • You proactively seek cross-functional collaboration with global teams, clearly communicate architecture proposals to diverse audiences, and exercising data-driven decision making to ensure seamless integration of the GPU into the overall system.
  • You take initiatives on moderate-to-complex projects and help advance best practices, methodologies by staying ahead of industry trends and emerging technologies.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 6+ years of experience with a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/Engineering, or 4+ years of experience with a Master's Degree, or 2+ years of experience with a Ph.D.
  • 6+ years of experience in GPU architecture, design, or development, with a focus on high-performance, low-power designs.
  • Knowledge of graphics and GPU pipelines, hardware design, and computer architecture.
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies, such as ray tracing, AI, and machine learning.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex systems and optimize performance, power, and area.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity in a fast-paced, global team environment.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with CPU, NPU, or other complex processing units, such as ARM, x86, or RISC-V.
  • Experience in performance modeling, analysis and optimization.
