What is a GovPilot implementation specialist?

A GovPilot is not a job title itself, but rather a cloud-based government management platform used by local governments to streamline their operations and improve public services. Employees who work with or as administrators of GovPilot manage digital processes such as permitting, licensing, inspections, and code enforcement. Their role is to help municipal staff use the software effectively, ensure data accuracy, and support transparency and efficiency in government workflows. These professionals often provide training, troubleshooting, and maintenance for the GovPilot system within a municipality.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a GovPilot implementation specialist?

To thrive as a GovPilot Implementation Specialist, a solid understanding of government processes, project management, and software solutions is essential, often supported by a relevant degree or experience in public administration or IT. Familiarity with GovPilot's SaaS platform, CRM systems, and data migration tools is typically required, along with certifications in project management or business analysis. Strong communication, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail help facilitate collaboration with government clients and ensure smooth project delivery. These skills and qualities are vital for effectively deploying digital solutions, improving government efficiency, and ensuring client satisfaction.

What are the main challenges someone might face when working as a GovPilot implementation specialist, and how can they overcome them?

As a GovPilot implementation specialist, you may encounter challenges such as adapting to different municipal workflows, managing tight project timelines, and communicating technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Successfully navigating these challenges requires strong organizational skills, patience, and the ability to tailor solutions for each local government's unique needs. Collaborating closely with IT teams, administrators, and end-users, as well as proactively seeking feedback and providing clear training, can help ensure smooth software adoption and project success.

Job description

The role

As a solutions engineer at GovPilot, you'll be the technical heartbeat of our sales process. You'll partner closely with our account executives to win new business — running product demonstrations, responding to RFPs, and helping prospects understand exactly how GovPilot solves their problems. You know how to translate complex software capabilities into clear, compelling stories for non-technical buyers.

This is a pre-sales role. You'll spend most of your time in discovery calls, demos, and proposal responses — not in implementation. You'll be talking to City Managers, IT Directors, Town Clerks, and Building Officials, so the ability to connect with public sector buyers is essential.

We're looking for candidates based in the West or Central time zones to ensure strong coverage across our growing municipal prospect base in those regions.

What you'll do
  • Lead tailored product demonstrations for municipal prospects across the US
  • Partner with AEs throughout the sales cycle — from discovery through proposal
  • Own RFP and RFI responses, working with internal teams to craft accurate, competitive answers
  • Run discovery sessions to uncover prospect needs and map them to GovPilot capabilities
  • Build custom demo environments and proof-of-concept configurations
  • Serve as the technical point of contact during competitive evaluations
  • Capture and relay product feedback to our product team based on prospect conversations
  • Support proposal and pricing discussions alongside sales leadership
What we're looking for
  • Experience in a pre-sales, solutions engineering, or sales engineering role at a SaaS company
  • Comfort presenting to non-technical audiences — you simplify, not impress
  • Experience selling to or working within local or state government (strongly preferred)
  • Familiarity with govtech platforms (e.g., permitting, licensing, land management, or ERP)
  • Strong written communication — RFP responses require precision
  • Ability to manage multiple active deals and demos simultaneously
  • Self-starter mentality — this is a remote role with high autonomy
  • Curiosity about how government operations work and how software improves them
  • Based in the West or Central time zone (strongly preferred)
Nice to have
  • Direct experience at a govtech company (CivicPlus, Tyler Technologies, OpenGov, Accela, etc.)
  • Knowledge of government procurement processes, including cooperative purchasing vehicles
  • Experience working with HubSpot or similar CRM platforms
  • Background in public administration, planning, or municipal operations
