Job description

The Ingest/Transmission Operator and Editor oversees all inbound and outbound media, content distribution, and news-gathering operations. Responsibilities include monitoring on-air product quality, ensuring compliance with government regulations, troubleshooting technical equipment, editing news content, and preparing programming for broadcast. This position is governed by the National IBEW Broadcast Agreement for CBS television stations.

Duties & Responsibilities


Monitor and manage inbound and outbound media using various transmission methods, including fiber, Skype, and LiveU.
Ensure timely response to breaking news events and oversee broadcast delivery.
Collaborate with team members and network staff, providing operational support as needed.
Identify, edit, and insert broadcast-quality video and audio into news bulletins on short notice.
Handle broadcast media and feeds, manage video and audio switching, and operate recording equipment.
Utilize servers and monitoring systems to manage media acquisition and delivery.
Ingest media into servers and prepare files for editing and broadcast.
Perform basic troubleshooting and escalate technical issues when necessary.
Support live studio production requirements and provide excellent service to internal and external media operations clients.
Monitor and control video encoding and decoding systems and troubleshoot incoming and outgoing transmission paths.
Develop and implement backup plans for equipment or transmission failures.
Edit news content using non-linear editing systems.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications


Strong knowledge of server-based news environments, broadcast hardware, and software systems.
Understanding of news operations, current events, and the importance of attention to detail.
Proficiency in quality control (QC) tools and processes.
Familiarity with digital video formats, ingest workflows, media servers, and broadcast production environments.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.
Understanding of broadcast production workflows and technical standards.
Working knowledge of broadcast formats, server systems, and diagnostic tools.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced news environment.
Strong organizational skills, reliability, and punctuality.
Experience with Grass Valley Edius editing systems preferred.

Education & Experience


Bachelor's degree in a technical field preferred.
Minimum of 1-2 years of experience working in a fast-paced television news environment.
Experience using non-linear editing systems required.
Must be detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and able to work with minimal supervision.
Must be a creative and adaptable team player capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Flexibility to work nights, overnights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Hiring Salary Range: $36.0 - 40.0. 

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.  The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable,  as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
