The Role


Stratus recently partnered with Stewart and is seeking a Senior Bridge Engineer to join the team. This person will provide expert-level technical design to manage and produce consistently high-quality design on a wide variety of bridge projects, both large- and small-scale, including the design of steel and concrete vehicular and pedestrian bridges.

Responsibilities


  • Prepare the layout and design of conventional and complex bridge structures
  • Prepare and complete discipline engineering designs that are responsive to project needs, including the production of bridge design, shop drawing review, quantities, cost estimates, construction administration, and final specifications, ensuring that work is accurate and in accordance with good engineering codes and practice
  • Plan and review the production of engineering drawings and specifications
  • Conduct field observations and data collection activities
  • Oversee and prepare design details, plans, and drawings within specific task areas
  • Develop project design criteria, design calculations, construction details, quantities, and cost estimates
  • Analyze technical problems, assessing the feasibility of proposed techniques and procedures, and devising new approaches and alternative solutions
  • Mentor junior bridge designers and new graduate engineers, including training to use software, how to perform design tasks, and plan production. Assign work tasks to junior bridge designers and graduate engineers
  • Prepare and check design drawings and/or specifications
  • Effectively communicate and coordinate with other team members regarding schedule and progress on assigned tasks
  • Periodically provide on-site visits to inspect or review projects to monitor compliance with project specifications or other regulations
  • Complete work on time and within budget

Qualifications


Required

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (Master's degree strongly preferred)
  • 8-10 years of experience in the design of all components of steel and concrete bridges
  • Proficiency in MicroStation/OpenBridge and Leap Bridge software
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment
  • Knowledge of transportation engineering concepts, principles, theories, and methods required to plan, design, and engineer facilities such as highways, streets, bridges, and multi-modal facilities

Preferred

  • Experience working with NCDOT projects preferred
