Job description

ND Defense is growing โ€” and we're building the accounting leadership to match.

We are seeking a Sr. Director of Accounting to lead our accounting team, optimize our ERP system, and drive efficiency through AI and automation. Reporting to the CFO alongside our Sr. Director of Finance, this role owns the accounting function end to end: ensuring compliance with DCMA requirements, delivering accurate and timely project-based accounting, and building scalable processes as we expand across both defense and commercial manufacturing.

What we're looking for:

This is an accounting leadership role โ€” not a finance role. Candidates whose experience is stronger in FP&A, treasury, or strategic finance rather than hands-on accounting operations should not apply.

Required: experience with government contracts, project-based accounting, DCMA requirements, a strong accounting background with demonstrated leadership ability, and experience managing a team of five or more direct reports.

Preferred: CPA, degree in accounting, and experience with manufacturing accounting.

What kind of person thrives here:

You can pivot quickly, solve problems without a playbook, and bring a deep sense of teamwork and a positive attitude to everything you do. You're a builder who wants to put structure in place and watch it scale. You're looking for the next step in your career at a company where your work matters.

What we offer:

Hybrid work schedule with every other Friday off, generous PTO and holiday schedules, a comprehensive benefits package, and a culture of great people who work together to get results.

If you meet the required qualifications and want to be part of something that's growing, we'd like to hear from you!

Responsibilities:

Establishes and maintains the organization's overall accounting systems, procedures, and policies.

  • Directs all analysis and reporting of financial information including budgets, planning, and required filings and reports.
  • Produces thorough financial-status reports for senior managers.
  • Establishes and monitors internal controls and policies to comply with legislation and established best practices.
  • Prepares financial statements in compliance with official guidelines and requirements.
  • Ensures journal entries, invoices, and accounts are reconciled accurately and timely.
  • Prepares budgets and forecasts.
  • Prepares for the annual audit.
  • Develops reports for management or regulatory bodies.
  • Monitors the work of the Accounting staff to identify and resolve inaccuracies or imbalances.
  • Builds and coaches a staff who are sufficient and qualified to successfully perform all assigned accounting duties. Utilizes best management practices in accordance with Human Resources.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelorโ€™s degree (or equivalent) in business, accounting, or related field

  • Professional certification, such as CPA (certified public accountant) or CA (chartered accountant) preferred
  • 5 years experience as a senior-level accounting or finance manager
  • 10 years of professional accounting experience
  • Strong understanding of banking processes and financial data analysis
  • Working knowledge of national and local tax regulations and compliance reporting
  • Experience in streamlining accounting processes.
  • Exemplary history of financial project management
  • US Person
