Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

Information Technology Services (ITS) at Iowa State University is seeking a skilledSystems Analyst IIto join the Identity Services team. This positionprovidesan opportunity to work independently on the implementation, administration, and support of enterprise identity and access management (IAM) services that enable the university's academic, research, and administrative missions. The role serves as a key technical contributor supporting a modern identity ecosystem including Microsoft Entra ID, Active Directory, Azure, Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, Google Workspace for Education, and connected applicationsutilizingsingle sign-on technologies.

The successful candidate will combine strong technical troubleshooting skills with hands-on experience in server administration, automation, identity lifecycle management, and systems integration. This individual will work closely with campus stakeholders and technical teams tomaintainsecure, reliable, and scalable identity services while contributing to ongoing modernization and automation initiatives. The position requires the ability to independently manage projects of moderate complexity,identifyopportunities for process improvement, and implement solutions that enhance operational efficiency and security.

Example of Duties

  • Administer and support enterprise identity systems including Microsoft Entra ID, Active Directory, Azure, Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, and Google Workspace for Education.

  • Manage Windows Server and Active Directory infrastructure supporting authentication, directory services, and access management.

  • Develop,maintain, and troubleshoot PowerShell, Bash, and other automation scripts used for provisioning, reporting, monitoring, and operational support.

  • Implement and support account lifecycle management processes including provisioning, deprovisioning, role assignments, and access reviews.

  • Support authentication, authorization, and single sign-on integrations using industry-standard protocols such as SAML, OAuth 2.0, and OpenID Connect.

  • Monitor system performance, investigate operational issues, and implement corrective actions to improve reliability and service availability.

  • Collaborate with campus IT staff, application owners, and vendors to design and implement identity-related solutions.

  • Participate in technical projects involving identity modernization, cloud migration, automation, and security improvements.

  • Create andmaintaintechnical documentation, procedures, and operational standards.

  • Provide technical guidance and knowledge sharing to colleagues and campus partners as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • IAM (Identity and Access Management) experience (Microsoft Entra ID, Azure AD)

  • Enterprise suite administration experience (Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, or Google Workspace for Education)

  • Active Directory and Windows Server administration experience

  • Experience developing andmaintainingautomation solutions(Powershell, Bash)

  • Technical project leadership and cross-functional collaboration experience

  • Higher education technology experience

Identity Services partners closely with campus stakeholders to deliver modern, secure, and scalable identity solutions that support Iowa State University's teaching, research, extension, and administrative missions.
