About the Role

The Associate Operations Manager - Yard Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of all yard activities within the facility. This role oversees trailer movement, yard organization, dock coordination, equipment flow, and communication between warehouse, transportation, security, and dispatch teams. The Associate Operations Manager - Yard Manager ensures trailers, containers, and yard assets are positioned correctly to support operational throughput while maintaining strict safety standards and real-time visibility of yard status ensuring full compliance with CTPAT standards.

What the Candidate Will Do

  • Lead Daily Yard Operations: Oversee all yard activities, managing trailer placement, asset staging, dock assignments, and equipment flow to optimize throughput.
  • Manage & Develop Personnel: Direct yard drivers, spotters, and associated staff, ensuring safe, disciplined, and timely trailer movements.
  • Maintain Real-Time Visibility: Conduct routine yard audits to track and verify trailer locations, seal integrity, and equipment conditions, maintaining perfect inventory accuracy.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Partner closely with warehouse, dispatch, transportation, and security teams to align yard movements with inbound and outbound priorities.
  • Optimize Yard Performance: Monitor and improve key performance metrics, including yard congestion, trailer dwell times, door utilization, and turn performance to eliminate delays.
  • Enforce Safety & Compliance: Uphold strict safety standards, ensuring full compliance with OSHA regulations, site rules, company policies, and CTPAT standards.
  • Incident Investigation: Lead investigations into yard incidents, near-misses, and equipment damage, implementing swift corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Standardize Workflows: Help develop and implement standardized operating procedures (SOPs) for gate control, trailer inspections, and shift handoffs.

Basic Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3+ years of experience in yard operations, warehouse operations, transportation, or logistics leadership.
  • Experience managing trailer yards, cross-dock environments, distribution centers, or high-volume warehouse operations.
  • Strong understanding of yard safety, dock operations, and trailer movement processes.
  • Experience with WMS, TMS, yard management systems, or related operational tracking tools.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office / Google Workspace and operational reporting tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree preferred 
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred
  • Experience in high-volume logistics, transload, cross-dock, or 3PL/4PL environments.
  • Familiarity with CTPAT program and OSHA standards and safety management practices.
  • Experience with KPI management, continuous improvement, and root cause analysis.
