Job description

Technical SEO Manager

DEPLOY has been retained by a fast-growing digital agency specializing in delivering innovative solutions across design, development, data, and technology.

Our client partners with leading brands to create impactful digital experiences, from websites and apps to data-driven campaigns.

As a Technical SEO Manager, you'll have the opportunity to work with a dynamic team of experts and help shape exceptional client outcomes.

Position Overview

The Technical SEO Manager is a key client-facing role responsible for overseeing the success of multiple accounts.

You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers, UX/UI designers, digital strategists, data analysts, project managers, and QA specialists, to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and exceed client expectations.

Additionally, you will serve as a trusted advisor to clients, building strong relationships and delivering strategic guidance to ensure client retention and drive organic account growth.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Audits & Site Health

Run and interpret technical SEO audits (crawls, log file analysis, Core Web Vitals, indexation reports) across a portfolio of client websites.

Identify and remediate technical issues — broken redirects, crawl errors, duplicate content, canonicalization problems, XML sitemap issues, and more.

Monitor site health proactively using tools like Screaming Frog, Google Search Console, GA4, and log file analyzers, rather than waiting for issues to surface.

Evaluate and advise on ADA/WCAG accessibility fundamentals as they intersect with SEO, including semantic HTML, alt text, and heading hierarchy.

Technical Implementation

Write and implement structured data (Schema.org/JSON-LD) to improve how pages are understood by search engines and AI/LLM crawlers.

Make light code-level changes (HTML, CSS, basic JS templating) and clearly scope larger fixes for the development team.

Consult on site architecture recommendations: URL structure, internal linking, canonical tags, hreflang/language attributes, and crawl budget optimization.

Stay current on how search engines and AI crawlers (Googlebot, GPTBot, and similar) discover, render, and interpret site content, and adjust strategy accordingly.

Cross-Team Collaboration & Reporting

Act as the primary technical liaison between Content, Development, and Client Strategy teams, ensuring technical SEO requirements don't get lost in translation.

Translate technical data into clear, actionable insights and recommendations for the Content team and for client-facing reporting.

Communicate project progress, risks, and recommendations to clients and internal stakeholders in a clear and professional manner.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support client presentations, including performance reviews and strategy discussions.

Qualifications & Skills

Experience: 3–5+ years in technical SEO, ideally at an agency or managing multiple client sites.

Technical Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of HTML, and comfort reading/writing light CSS and JavaScript; hands-on experience implementing structured data (JSON-LD schema types such as Article, Product, FAQ, and LocalBusiness).

SEO Fundamentals: Deep understanding of crawlability and indexation — robots.txt, llms.txt, canonicals, redirects, sitemaps, pagination, and hreflang.

Tools & Data: Proficiency with technical SEO and analytics tools (Screaming Frog,

Google Search Console, GA4, Ahrefs/SEMrush, log file analysis) and comfort querying and interpreting data from spreadsheets, exports, or APIs.

Accessibility: Knowledge of ADA/WCAG accessibility principles as they relate to web structure.

Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly to content teams, developers, and clients alike.

Collaboration: A team-first mindset

Nice to Have

Experience optimizing for AI-driven search/answer engines (AI Overviews, ChatGPT,

Perplexity, etc.) and emerging standards like llms.txt.

Familiarity with a CMS or two (WordPress, Sanity IO, Webflow, Shopify, headless CMS platforms).

Basic Git/version control familiarity for collaborating with dev teams.

Agency experience managing SEO across a portfolio of client accounts simultaneously.

What We Offer

Flexible working environment (remote or hybrid).

Unlimited PTO.

Opportunities for professional development and career growth.

A collaborative and supportive team culture.

The chance to work on exciting and impactful projects for leading brands.
