Job Title: Cashier
Department: Donated Goods Program (DGP)
Reports To: Store Manager

Position Summary:
Responsible for providing high-quality customer service and smooth interactions that align with GWH's service standards. Responsible for collecting payment for merchandise by accurately itemizing and totaling customer purchases and processing transactions. Assist in merchandising priced goods to the sales floor in designated areas while keeping the sales floor clean, organized, attractive, and easy to shop.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Greet each customer and assist with basic questions about store operations, merchandise, and programs to create a positive shopping experience.
  • Operate electronic cash registers, credit card devices, and Point of Sale (POS) systems accurately while obtaining payment for customer purchases.
  • Inform customers about the Loyalty Rewards Program by clearly explaining its benefits and helping them enroll.
  • Promote and encourage customer participation in Change Round Up by explaining its purpose of supporting GWH's mission and program services.
  • Move merchandise efficiently and in a timely manner from processing areas to the appropriate sales floor area.
  • Arrange new goods merchandise and queue items according to the planograms and store layouts to ensure consistent product flow and optimal customer access.
  • Maintain a full sales floor by keeping racks and shelves stocked, organized, visually appealing, and by rotating merchandise and removing older items, and ensuring the store is "Fresh, Full, and Friendly."
  • Maintain store recovery standards by completing the 5-Minute Drill and ensuring cleanliness, organization, and consistent merchandising in assigned areas.
  • Keep the cash wrap area clean and well-organized, removing hangers as necessary to ensure smooth transaction flows.
  • Perform housekeeping duties across assigned sales floor areas and restrooms, ensuring spaces remain clean, safe, and free of clutter.
  • Assist in maintaining the safety and security of GWH associates, customers, and company property.
  • Perform necessary janitorial work.
  • Must report all work incidents and injuries immediately.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

  • Demonstrate professionalism, good judgment, and present a friendly, cooperative attitude.
  • Ability to multitask, make quick decisions, adapt to change, and collaborate effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

  • Must be punctual, dependable, and maintain a professional appearance.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Must perform work safely; maintain good housekeeping standards, and ensure all aisles and pathways to fire exits are clear and free of clutter.
  • Adheres to local, state, and federal laws and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to perform basic math functions (i.e., addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
  • Ability to communicate effectively and interact well with individuals with diverse personalities and communication styles.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Retail sales experience is preferred.
  • Must have reliable transportation.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
  • Ability to stand, twist, bend, squat, reach, kneel, push, and pull.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and, occasionally, lift/move items up to 100 lbs. (e.g., large bags of donations, televisions, furniture, etc.)
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Moderate indoor noise with periodic exposure to outside temperatures.
