Job description

Essential Job Duties:

(These statements are intended to describe the essential functions and related requirements of persons assigned to this job. They are not intended as an exhaustive list of all job duties, responsibilities and requirements.)

  1. Performs all essential job duties of therapy technician (see below):
    1. Assists therapist and Manager in recording patient treatment log(s)
    2. Demonstrates effective time management skills and utilization of time in an appropriate and professional manner
    3. Prioritizes therapy staff and patient needs in an appropriate manner to ensure that technician assistance is provided in an optimal manner with division of duties among multiple technicians present and recognizable
    4. Keeps equipment and treatment areas cleaned, organized, and in safe working condition according to state health department requirements
    5. Assists the patient, therapy staff, and/or nursing staff with activities of daily living (e.g. bathing, dressing, meal set-up, and other needs) as necessary/appropriate
    6. Assists in preparation of survey readiness through assigned and recognized tasks to ensure that compliance objectives are maintained within all PMD and Rehab locations
  2. Contributes to a high-performance work environment by demonstrating professionalism and flexibility to assist when/where needed
  3. Maintains effective & professional communication with ancillary departments and therapy team. This may include, but is not limited to:
    1. Nursing staff regarding patient's current medical status prior to, during, and post therapy treatment
    2. Encouraging and supporting a team mentality with members of therapy staff
    3. Reporting concerns to Senior Therapist, Manager, and/or Director when appropriate
    4. Communicating availability to clerical staff (PMD secretaries or IR unit clerk)
    5. Participation in monthly department meetings, UBC, and/or other organizational committees as appropriate and beneficial
  4. Demonstrates safety awareness with body mechanics, patient needs and transfers, and scope of job duties without the presence of that therapist/therapy assistant
  5. Maintains preventative maintenance/temperature logs for equipment and assures equipment is in good working order. Maintains the parameters of safe temperatures and care on the therapy hot packs, ice packs, refrigerator (as needed), paraffin bath, and splint pan through required and current logs in a reportable state at any time requested.
  6. Monitors and maintains supplies for therapy staff use, assists with ordering needed supplies in a timely manner with the supervision of Manager, monitors arrival of supplies and notifies Senior Therapist/Manager when supplies do or do not arrive as anticipated
  7. Prepares patients for treatment and assists in keeping the department clean and ready for patient treatment. Responsible for providing therapy equipment pre-admission or during patient evaluation and retrieving therapy equipment post-discharge as appropriate.
  8. Under the supervision of the Therapist/Therapy Assistant, assists with transfers and other treatments requiring the assistance of 2 staff members, observing appropriate precautions. Assists therapists with safe transport of patients to/from therapy sessions as appropriate, including assisting within the Joint Replacement Program if necessary
  9. Obtains, organizes, and maintains therapy equipment, utilizing appropriate resources for use and maintenance in order to prolong the life of the equipment and optimize safety. Reports equipment in need of replacement or repair to Senior Therapist/Manager/Director & ensures staff do not utilize during patient care. Responsible for cleaning all therapy equipment (assistance from therapists/therapy assistants is also expected), as well as preparing/cleaning treatment rooms and supplies.
  10. Completes other duties and special projects as assigned from Manager or Director
     

Secondary Job Duties That May be Reassigned:

  1. Assists in orienting/training staff members.
  2. Educates and trains other staff members as appropriate regarding equipment use and care
  3. Enters engineering work orders
  4. Assists with departmental Performance Improvement Program.
  5. Assists with communication dissemination to all therapy staff
