Mechanical Assembler, Westech

 

(This role may be filled at an entrylevel or experienced level, based on candidate qualifications and experience.)

We are seeking a Mechanical Assembler to join our team. The Mechanical Assembler is responsible for assembling, inspecting, and supporting the production of mechanical components and equipment in a manufacturing environment while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and efficiency. This role focuses on handson mechanical assembly and the operation of shop equipment, with opportunities to support hydraulic assembly and testing activities as an asset based on experience and training. The position may be filled at an entrylevel or experienced level and offers opportunities for skill development and progression within the organization. Hydraulic experience is considered an asset.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certification and licensing to operate forklift is strongly preferred
  • Experience working in a manufacturing, production, warehouse, or industrial shop environment
  • Experience assembling, installing, or servicing mechanical components on heavy equipment, vehicles, or industrial machinery
  • Basic experience inspecting, testing, or assisting with equipment assembly or repairs
  • General understanding of mechanical systems and production equipment
  • Prior experience in a mechanical assembly or production role
  • Exposure to hydraulic systems, components, or mobile hydraulics is considered an asset
  • Previous experience with vacuum trucks, hydrovacs, heavy equipment, or industrial equipment is a strong asset
  • Experience working with PTO systems and hydraulic power units is preferred but not required
  • Experience performing basic equipment testing, diagnostics, or troubleshooting in a production environment
  • Experience collaborating with welders, electricians, and other mechanical assemblers in a shop setting
  • Ability to safely operate hand and power tools with proper training
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions, drawings, and basic schematics
  • Awareness of workplace safety standards and willingness to work cautiously in industrial environments
  • Good time management skills and willingness to adapt to changing production priorities
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Set up and start assigned assembly and production equipment at the beginning of each shift
  • Perform mechanical and light manufacturing assembly using hand tools and power tools
  • Assemble components and subassemblies according to work instructions, drawings, and quality standards
  • Operate shop equipment such as band saws, drill presses, and iron workers in accordance with training and safety requirements
  • Inspect completed assemblies to ensure workmanship and quality requirements are met
  • Monitor equipment and production processes to ensure safe and proper operation
  • Perform basic equipment checks and report malfunctions, quality issues, or safety concerns to the immediate supervisor
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazardfree workstation; assist in keeping the factory floor clean
  • Clean tools, equipment, and work areas to support safe and efficient operations
  • Adhere to all workplace safety policies and procedures related to equipment operation, material handling, and production
  • Support the achievement of daily production targets and deadlines through efficient work practices
  • Communicate production status, delays, or issues clearly to supervisors or team leads
  • Collaborate with welders, electricians, and other mechanical assemblers to support workflow and production goals
  • Assist with the installation, routing, or inspection of hydraulic components under supervision, where applicable
  • Support basic hydraulic system testing, inspection, or troubleshooting as training and experience allow, where applicable
  • Follow hydraulic safety practices, including awareness of pressure hazards and leak detection, when working near hydraulic systems, where applicable
