Job Description
We invite you to join the world of luxury hospitality at Fairmont Grand Del Mar, as our new Assistant Golf Professional.
The Assistant Golf Professional is responsible for supporting the daily golf operation and delivering an exceptional experience for members and guests. This role assists in overseeing tee sheet management, golf shop operations, retail sales, instructional programming, tournament execution, and service standards while maintaining alignment with the luxury standards of Fairmont Grand Del Mar and The Grand Golf Club. The Assistant Golf Professional serves as a key operational leader and ambassador of the Club, ensuring efficient daily execution, strong communication across departments, and a high level of personalized service.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as a representative of The Grand Golf Club and Fairmont Grand Del Mar by displaying professionalism, discretion, courtesy, and hospitality in all interactions with members, guests, vendors, and colleagues.
  • Maintain and uphold departmental service standards, operating procedures, and presentation expectations at all times.
  • Assist with daily golf operations including tee sheet management, point-of-sale transactions, reservations, and guest check-in procedures.
  • Manage daily play through tee sheet and POS systems, ensuring accuracy of billing, guest information, and tee time details.
  • Handle phone inquiries, reservations, and member/guest requests with professionalism and attention to detail.
  • Communicate daily operational priorities, special events, member notes, and relevant information to the Player Services team, Golf Leadership team, and other departments as needed.
  • Work closely with Player Services to coordinate guest arrivals, golf cart assignments, bag handling, and on-course needs.
  • Act as Player Host, Starter, or practice facility support as assigned.
  • Support golf shop retail operations including merchandising standards, stock organization, product knowledge, and special orders.
  • Assist Golf Merchandiser with maintaining shop presentation, merchandising displays, stock replenishment, and monthly physical inventory counts.
  • Maintain knowledge of current retail vendors, apparel sizing, hard goods, and special-order processes.
  • Conduct private instruction, group clinics, club fitting sessions, and player development programs.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with instructional and fitting technologies including Coach Now and the like, SAM PuttLab, launch monitors, and current fitting/demo equipment.
  • Support tournament operations, scoring, and event execution utilizing Golf Genius software.
  • Assist with member events, corporate outings, clinics, and other golf programming as assigned.
  • Coordinate forecaddie communication and scheduling support when needed.
  • Support operations in all golf department areas including Golf Shop, practice facilities, Player Services, and Members Locker Room as needed.
  • Build relationships with members through regular engagement and personalized service, including playing golf with members when appropriate and operationally feasible.
  • Maintain PGA education progress and participate in applicable Chapter, Section, and Association meetings, education seminars, and professional development opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with all company safety standards, operational procedures, and ongoing training requirements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by Golf Leadership.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred.
  • Previous golf operations or hospitality experience required, preferably in a private club, resort, or high-end daily fee environment.
  • PGA Associate (Level 1 or higher required) or PGA Member in good standing.
  • Strong computer proficiency including POS systems, tee sheet management software, Microsoft Office, and golf-related technology platforms.
  • Experience with tournament software, retail operations, and instructional technology preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and service recovery skills.
  • Ability to lead, direct, and collaborate with hourly staff and cross-functional teams.
  • Positive, enthusiastic, professional, and team-oriented attitude.
  • Must develop strong familiarity with members, including preferences and service expectations.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to operate golf carts and club vehicles safely.
  • Ability to obtain required food and alcohol certifications as applicable.
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and occasional overnight or special event shifts.

Physical Demands
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to sit, bend, kneel, squat, twist, and reach frequently throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions for extended periods.
  • Frequent use of golf carts, computer systems, telephones, and standard office equipment.
  • Ability to safely operate golf-related equipment and department vehicles.
  • Use of required protective equipment and adherence to all safety protocols.

Assistant Golf Professional Tier Structure
  • Tier 3: PGA Associate Level 1 & 2
  • Tier 2: PGA Associate Level 3
  • Tier 1: PGA Class A Member

Wage Information
The hourly rate for this position is $23.00 - $25.00/hour USD depending on experience
