Job Purpose

Sharon Heights Golf and Country Clubโ€™s Head Golf Professional is responsible for the daily management and operation of the Golf Department, ensuring exceptional service, outstanding member experiences, and operational excellence. This position promotes the game of golf through strong leadership, effective team development, and the delivery of first-class programs, services, and events for members and their guests.

Working closely with the Director of Golf, the Head Golf Professional serves as the departmentโ€™s operational leader and assumes responsibility for all golf operations in the Director of Golfโ€™s absence. The role requires a highly visible leader who is committed to fostering a welcoming culture, developing staff, and maintaining the Clubโ€™s high standards.

Job Summary (Essential Functions)
  • Provide a personable, professional, and service-focused golf environment that consistently delivers exceptional experience for members and guests.
  • Lead the planning, implementation, and execution of all golf programming, including daily play, tournaments, member events, leagues, clinics, instructional programs, golf outings, and special events.
  • Serve as the tournament director for the Clubโ€™s premier member events while overseeing the successful execution of all other golf tournaments and events by the professional staff.
  • Direct all daily golf operations, including the golf shop, outside services, bag drop, bag room, practice facilities, golf cart fleet, and club repair services.
  • Act as the department leader and primary decision-maker during the Director of Golfโ€™s absence, ensuring continuity of operations, service standards, and staff leadership.
  • Recruit, hire, schedule, supervise, and develop all Golf Department team members to ensure appropriate staffing levels and exceptional service.
  • Prepare, manage, and approve department staff schedules while overseeing payroll administration to ensure accuracy, labor efficiency, and compliance with Club policies.
  • Conduct regular Golf Department staff meetings to communicate expectations, review operational priorities, provide training, and reinforce service standards.
  • Train, coach, mentor, and evaluate golf staff, fostering professional growth and maintaining accountability through consistent performance management.
  • Work collaboratively with Greens & Grounds, Finance, Events, Communications, Food & Beverage, and Human Resources to ensure seamless club operations and exceptional member experiences.
  • Partner with Member Golf Committees to execute the membershipโ€™s vision for golf programming, competitions, and member services.
  • Provide private and group instruction while collaborating with the Director of Golf to develop and enhance instructional programming for golfers of all skill levels.
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and manage the annual Golf Department budget to achieve established revenue, expense, and financial performance goals.
  • Ensure all accounting procedures, inventory controls, and operational standards are maintained in accordance with Club policies and best practices.
  • Assist with golf shop merchandising by maintaining presentation standards and collaborating with the merchandiser to identify golf industry trends, product opportunities, and member preferences.
  • Represent the Club at PGA, regional, and sponsored golf events as approved by the General Manager/COO.
  • Promote and uphold the mission, values, and service standards of SHGCC while serving as a positive ambassador for the Club.
Leadership Expectations

The Head Golf Professional is expected to lead by example through professionalism, accountability, and exceptional member service. This position serves as the operational leader of the Golf Department, ensuring consistent execution of Club standards while empowering the professional staff to deliver memorable golf experiences every day.

Education and Experience Requirements
  • Class A PGA Member in good standing required; PGA Master Professional designation preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive golf operations leadership experience at a premier private club, resort, or comparable high-end golf facility.
  • Demonstrated experience serving and engaging a diverse membership across all ages, skill levels, and backgrounds.
  • Outgoing personality with exceptional customer service, passion, leadership, training, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), golf management software, point-of-sale systems, tournament management platforms, tee sheet management, and membership databases.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and prioritization skills.
  • Self-motivated with desire to promote and market.
  • Experienced in written and oral business communications.
  • Maintains a high level of playing proficiency and instructional credibility while remaining current on PGA teaching methodologies, industry best practices, technology, merchandising, and golf business trends.
