Job Summary
Recreation Team Members are responsible for providing assistance to customers, program participants and internal support to other members in the Department of Parks & Recreation. Recreation Team Members will be assigned to a specific area or function at the municipal golf course working the Pro Shop or Beverage Cart based upon operational needs. Hours may vary based on programming and special events including weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Essential Job Functions
  • Provides positive customer service, collects retail and sales fees in the pro shop and on the course, uses the computer reservation system, schedules tee times for members, non-members, and leagues. May assist in providing customer service to the Parks & Recreation Department such as answering phones, fielding questions, enrolling participants in programs.
  • Responsible for operation of the pro shop or beverage cart at the golf course which
    includes accurately maintaining the cash drawer, serving drinks and snacks, cleaning the facility and completing daily work logs and reports.
  • Responsible for educating and enforcing site rules.
  • Adherence to Board of Health regulations and Ohio Liquor Control laws.
    ** Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance is required.

Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of education, training and experience as listed below which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.A typical way to qualify is: a High School Diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of customer service experience.

Important Job Functions
  • Provide general housekeeping of work area, including sweeping, dusting, or picking up trash.
  • Monitoring safety of participants in the area or function assigned.
  • General upkeep of equipment and supplies in the area or function assigned.
  • Assist the Golf Course Supervisor, Recreation Superintendent, Parks Superintendent, Foreman, Parks Maintenance Coordinator and Recreation Coordinators with events and services provided by the Parks & Recreation Department.
  • Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
  • Principles, practices and safety techniques used in golf course operations.
  • Office terminology, procedures and equipment and of business English, spelling and arithmetic.
  • Operations of local government and/or a Parks and Recreation Department preferred.

Skill in:
  • Providing excellent customer service skills
  • Cash drawer operations such as addition, subtraction and proper cash handling techniques
  • Utilizing Microsoft Office products, such as Excel and Word.
  • POS Operating Systems

Ability to: (Mental and Physical Abilities)
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in written form.
  • Work independently.
  • Follow complex written and oral directions.
  • Adhere to regulations, policies and procedures required by the State of Ohio, Franklin County Board of Health, the City of Gahanna and any and all other regulatory/governing bodies.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with city officials, business executives, other employees, and the general public.
  • Exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires stooping, reaching, walking, grasping and repetitive motions.
  • Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
  • Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
  • Visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the
    accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surrounding and activities.

Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed may be performed outdoors, in hot or cold temperatures.
  • Some work may occur in a normal office environment with little exposure to outdoor temperatures or dirt and dust.

Seasonal employees are eligible to participate in the Ohio Public Employment Retirement (OPERS).
