Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Golf Course Turf Staff will perform work involving the use of large and small equipment typically used in the upkeep and improvement of a golf course. We have daily tasks that require light manual labor. Training will take place for those with experience and without experience working on a golf course. We will be accomplishing our daily goals while play on the golf course is occurring. Being aware of and courteous to customers is critical for their enjoyment of our course. This is a great opportunity for growth within the golf industry and learning about turf and ornamentals for one's own use. We look to hire staff most every summer with pay being based on experience and qualifications. Must be available to work on weekend mornings; usually three (3) hour shifts.


EXAMPLES OF EXPECTATIONS AND DUTIES

1. Works under the supervision of the Superintendent, Asst. Superintendent and at times under the lead staff member.

2. Receives training from Staff members designated by Superintendent or Asst. Superintendent.

3. Trained in course setup e.g., Tee setup, changing pin locations, bunker prep.

4. Operation and training in some of the course equipment e.g., Greens, Tees, Fairways, Roughs, Edgers, Rollers, etc.

5. Learn techniques in hand watering of Greens, Tees, Ornamentals and other areas as needed.

6. Proper use of mechanical bunker rake, hand raking, bunker edging, and playability maintenance.

7. Use of hand-operated equipment e.g., blowers, trimmers, edgers, possible chainsaw use.

8. Could assist in the repair and maintenance of the irrigation system, equipment, tools, and course facilities.

9. Other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation or working toward High School Diploma.

Dependable, Hard Working, Self-Motivated.

High aptitude for listening, comprehending, and remembering instructions.

Can and will ask questions when unsure about instructions.

Must possess a valid state driver's license and be at least 18 years of age for full time seasonal work.

Must be able to work in a team environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Plays golf and knowledge of golf etiquette.

Experience in turf and or ornamental plant care.

Ability to use, or learn to use, manual transmission needed for turf vehicles.

Basic mechanical skills.

Experience with watering systems.

Use of fertilizers and or chemicals for turf.

Experience with watering systems, repair, and use.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects.

Frequently required to use hands and arms to operate objects, tools, or controls.

Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

Frequently required to walk, sit, and communicate.

Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift weights up to 75 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and being able to adjust focus.

Works daily near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions.

Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, exhaust fumes and turf chemicals.

The noise level in the work environment is moderately noisy in field settings.

Turf staff usually works one day of each weekend lasting between 2.5 and 3.5 hours.
