Job description

Boot Ranch is seeking a Golf Course Superintendent to help lead one of Texas' premier private golf facilities. Reporting directly to the Director of Agronomy, this position is ideal for an accomplished Assistant Superintendent who is ready to take the next step in their career or an experienced Superintendent looking to join a collaborative, high-performing team.
This role will oversee the daily maintenance and presentation of the golf course while helping execute the agronomic vision established by the Director of Agronomy. The successful candidate will play a significant role in staff development, operational planning, project execution, and maintaining the exceptional playing conditions that members expect every day.
Boot Ranch is deeply committed to developing future industry leaders. The successful candidate will receive extensive mentorship, continuing education opportunities, tournament volunteer experiences, and exposure to every aspect of managing a premier private club operation with the long-term goal of becoming a Director of Agronomy or leading their own distinguished golf facility.
Club Highlights:
  • 2025 Maintenance Budget: $2.9 million operating budget
  • Capital Budget: Approximately $100,000 annually
  • Annual Golf Rounds: 22,000
  • Outside Events: Approximately 5 annually
  • Maintenance Staff: 22 full-time employees and 4 part-time employees
  • Typical Work Schedule:
    • In Season: 45-50 hours per week with every third weekend rotation
    • Off Season: Approximately 40 hours per week with every fourth weekend rotation

Initial Priorities of the Position:
  • Continue building upon the outstanding culture established by the Director of Agronomy.
  • Develop strong working relationships with the maintenance staff.
  • Continue training and mentoring the current hourly team.
  • Work alongside the Director of Agronomy to further develop the Assistant Superintendent and Assistant-in-Training.
  • Maintain exceptional daily golf course conditions while executing the agronomic plan.
  • Learn the membership's expectations and Boot Ranch's operational standards.
Key Responsibilities, Knowledge, Skills, and Aptitude:
  • Lead the daily golf course maintenance operation while maintaining championship-level conditioning.
  • Supervise, schedule, train, mentor, and evaluate maintenance staff.
  • Coordinate daily assignments and monitor quality of completed work.
  • Execute agronomic programs established by the Director of Agronomy.
  • Order fertilizers, chemicals, seed, and maintenance materials.
  • Prepare spray programs and fertilizer recommendations.
  • Apply pesticides and fertilizers when necessary.
  • Ensure all pesticide applications comply with state regulations and safety standards.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe maintenance facility.
  • Participate in budgeting, planning, and long-range capital improvement projects.
  • Assist with construction, renovation, and enhancement projects.
  • Support recruiting, onboarding, and employee development efforts.
  • Foster a positive culture centered on teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain accurate records of chemical applications, fertilizer usage, labor, and equipment.

Leadership Responsibilities include supervising up to 28 employees while creating an environment focused on accountability, communication, development, and teamwork.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate's Degree, Bachelor's Degree, or Certificate in Turfgrass Management or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 4-8+ years of progressive golf course maintenance experience.
  • Previous experience as a Senior Assistant Superintendent or Superintendent preferred.
  • Strong understanding of Bermudagrass management in the southern United States.
  • Current pesticide applicator license (or ability to obtain within 90 days).
  • Knowledge of golf course construction and renovation practices.
  • Experience managing labor, scheduling, and maintenance operations.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and maintenance software.
  • Golf background or understanding of the game is considered a plus.

Candidates with exceptional experience may be considered in lieu of the preferred educational background.
