ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The mission of Lake Washington Institute of Technology: to prepare students for today's careers and tomorrow's opportunities. The mission of the Behavioral and Social Services program: to prepare students for sustainable careers as behavioral health and social service professionals.
Lake Washington Institute of Technology's (LWTech) Behavioral and Social Services program offers three degrees and three certificates:
- a Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) degree in Behavioral Healthcare
- an Associate of Applied Science-Transfer (AAS -T) degree in Behavioral and Social Services
- an Associate of Applied Science-Transfer (AAS-T) degree in Substance Use Disorder Studies
- a Certificate of Proficiency in Behavioral and Social Services
- a Certificate of Proficiency in Substance Use Disorder Studies
- a Certificate of Completion in Substance Use Disorder Counseling
These applied studies in Behavioral Healthcare prepares students for work in the integrated treatment of mental illnesses, substance use disorders, physical illness, and poverty. Graduates are prepared to enter the workforce, advance in their current employment, and/or enroll in graduate degree programs in related fields such as social work, addictions treatment, or counseling. Course times and modalities vary: mornings, evenings, and Saturdays; face-to-face on-campus and online; synchronous and asynchronous.
This recruitment is to establish an applicant pool for future adjunct faculty vacancies. The college hires adjunct faculty on a quarter by quarter basis, dependent on enrollment. If you're selected for an interview for a potential future vacancy, a college representative will contact you.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Teach college-level Behavioral and Social Services courses
- Teach to the objectives of the approved curriculum
- Plan and develop a variety of instruction objectives and experiences appropriate to the program goals
- Identify individual learning needs of students and make appropriate adjustments
- Develop and teach lessons that foster and support cultural diversity and non-discrimination
- Teach productive and constructive study skills to students
- Develop classroom and lab procedures (if needed) in conformance with identified policies and procedures
- Maintain records which indicate student progress and meet college and accreditation requirements
- Follow disciplinary procedures as prescribed and deal consistently and fairly with all students
- Design learning experiences for the unique characteristics of individual adult students through classes, individual instruction and self-directed learning
- Post the class syllabus and students' grades via the online course system (currently Canvas)
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in social work, counseling, psychology, addictions studies, or sociology
- 2 years of behavioral healthcare and/or social service work experience
- Strong understanding of behavioral healthcare issues, treatments, and systems of care
- Support for the values of holistic, client-centered work
- Abiding hope in recovery for each person
- Readiness to teach the use of varied intervention skills and methodologies
- Demonstrated ability to work successfully with students, staff, and community from diverse backgrounds
- Excellent communication skills and ability to function as an effective team member
Preferred qualifications
- Licensure by the state of Washington without restriction as a clinical social worker or mental health counselor
- Doctoral degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or addictions studies
- 5 years of behavioral healthcare and/or social service work experience.
- 2 years of clinical supervisory experience
- Collegiate teaching experience
- Distance learning experience/ experience
- Community or technical college experience
- Recent teaching experience in postsecondary and or vocational/technical education using a variety of methods, including traditional classroom, individualized lab
- Credentialing by the state of Washington without restriction as a Substance Use Disorder Professional
- Familiarity with local behavioral healthcare organizations
- Experience working on interdisciplinary teams
- Experience working with and communicating with historically underrepresented communities
- Experience in writing course curriculum
- Evidence of recent professional development activity

Compensation
Placement on the faculty salary schedule is based on an individual assessment of education and experience. The salary for part time faculty contracts shall be based upon the number of credits assigned the faculty member, the type of class taught, and the rates contained in the part time faculty salary schedule currently in effect and labeled Appendix B.

Step 3 ranges from $835.95 - $2,507.85
Step 4 ranges from $893.51 - $2,680.54
Step 5 ranges from $916.30 - $2,748.90

Once part-time faculty have worked 50% full-time or more for two consecutive quarters(with LWTech or combined with other community/technical colleges), Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Disability and other insurance benefits are provided as currently administered under Public Employees Benefits Board, State Retirement Plan and a Deferred Compensation Plan; sick leave accrues at 1 day (Prorated based on % of FTE) effective upon employment.
