Guest Experience Attendants create memorable moments for guests of all ages by facilitating animal interactions in two of our contact areas, Hands-on Harbor’s touch pool and Friendly Farm’s goat and sheep yard. This is a flexible schedule for 20 hours per week and requires weekend availability. In addition to contact yards, the Guest Experience Attendant works with both Volunteer and Education staff for other informal teaching opportunities. 

Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • Provide a high level of customer service to guests at all times
  • Supervise guests while they are in animal contact areas (Hands-on Harbor, Friendly Farm Contact Yard)
  • Give clear instructions on how to appropriately interact with the animals
  • Respond to any emergency situations that arise in a safe and appropriate manner
  • Assist in setting up guest interaction areas throughout the facility
  • Assist in programming and guest engagement throughout the Friendly Farm and Aquarium
  • Answer any and all questions guests may have
  • Document any problems seen on or near the contact areas
  • Ensure guests are acting responsibly in the contact areas
  • Dress appropriately for the day's activities and adhere to the GSC dress code.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures of the Greensboro Science Center
  • Facilitate a ray feeding experience with guests

The successful applicant will have a demonstrated passion and aptitude for working with volunteers of all ages. Candidates should also be well-organized, comfortable speaking to groups, and have a positive, energetic, outgoing demeanor. Candidates must have excellent communication skills with the public and possess great interpersonal skills. The rate of pay is $10.66/hour.

Environmental Factors:

  • Work is performed outdoors for various lengths of time under a variety of conditions including both hot and cold temperatures, high humidity, and exposure to various plants and animals
  • While performing the duties of this job, ordinary ambulatory skills needed to navigate uneven surfaces including gravel, grass, hills, and stairs safely and comfortably
  • Manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds is required.
  • Good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity.
  • Interacting with both individuals and large groups is necessary and unavoidable. Ability to talk and hear are required.

Schedule Expectations

  • Shifts are daily from 9:30 AM-1:00 PM or 9:30 AM-4:00 PM. Sundays will be required. 
  • These hours may change as needed throughout the year.
  • Occasional evening opportunities may be available.
