Special Information:

Specific Job Information:

Internship will run mid-September to late December 2026. Monday through Friday. Preference will be given to Juniors and Seniors within a Natural Resource field (Biology, Fish and Wildlife Biology, Environmental Science, etc.). Internship occurs during the fall semester and work fits into class schedule, preferring 3-4-hour minimum time slots with availability Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. No weekends.

Jocko River Trout Hatchery is located in Arlee, Montana and is about 25 miles north of Missoula, Montana.

Job Duties:

The intern will learn how to feed and clean rearing units according to standard protocols. The intern will learn spawning techniques of the Arlee strain of rainbow trout. 3- and 4-year-old female rainbows range from 5 to 12 pounds on average, some up to 19 pounds. The intern will learn to take milt from 2- and 3-year-old males ranging from 1 to 5 pounds on average. Also learn about growth rates, density indexes, and oxygen demands of rearing trout in troughs, tanks, and raceways. The intern will go on one or more fish stocking plants.
