To thrive as a GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System) radio operator, you need comprehensive knowledge of maritime communication protocols, distress and emergency signaling, and international maritime regulations, typically validated by a GMDSS Operator's Certificate. Competence with GMDSS equipment such as satellite radios, emergency position-indicating radio beacons (EPIRBs), and communication consoles is essential.
