Job description

Position Overview

GMA is an Indiana public charter school, authorized by Ball State University, built on an authentic Montessori education — one grounded in trust, respect, and meaningful work in a thoughtfully prepared environment. Our teachers hold Montessori philosophy and Indiana Academic Standards together, not apart. And they never do it alone: GMA is a collaborative, mission-driven community where teams plan together, reflect together, and hold each other — and our students — to high expectations. If that's the kind of school where you do your best work, we want to hear from you.

The Role

The Lead Teacher guides a multi-age Montessori classroom — planning and delivering standards-aligned instruction rooted in Montessori materials and philosophy, building a prepared environment where independence and deep work can flourish, and forming the relationships with students, families, and colleagues that make it all possible.

This is a full-time, exempt, academic-year position. We're currently hiring for Lower Elementary (grades 1–2). GMA's grade bands are:

  • Early Childhood (ages 3–6 / Pre-K–K)
  • Lower Elementary (grades 1–2)
  • Middle Elementary (grades 3–4)
  • Upper Elementary (grades 5–6)

All Lead Teachers share the same core responsibilities and standards, with level-specific expectations noted as needed.

What You Bring

  • Valid Indiana teaching license, Indiana charter school license, or eligibility for licensure
  • Bachelor's degree in education or a related field
  • A genuine commitment to child-centered, relationship-based, equity-focused education
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with children, families, and colleagues
  • Comfort working with transparency and trust in a collaborative culture
  • Openness to coaching, peer feedback, and ongoing growth
