Job description

Full-Time | Experienced A-Level / Strong B-Level Technician

Tired of Working in a Hot Shop on Boring Cars?

North Texas High Performance is growing, and we're looking for an experienced automotive technician who actually knows how to fix cars.

Not just a parts changer. Not an entry-level lube tech. Not someone who needs every diagnostic decision made for them.

We're looking for a strong A-level or experienced B-level technician who can diagnose problems, perform major mechanical repairs, and take pride in doing the job correctly.

And unlike a lot of shops, we've invested in making this a place good technicians actually want to work.

Why NTHP?

Climate-controlled shop.
Yes, air conditioning. This is Texas. You shouldn't have to spend your career working in a 110-degree shop.

Clean, modern facility.
We're not operating out of an old warehouse with broken equipment and oil covering everything.

The right tools for the job.
We invest heavily in equipment and specialty tooling. If a legitimate job requires a specialty tool we don't already own, we're willing to buy it rather than expect our technicians to fight through the job the wrong way.

Work on cars that are actually interesting.
Corvettes, Camaros, Mustangs, Cadillacs, trucks, supercharged cars, high-horsepower street cars, engine builds, performance upgrades, diagnostics and more.

In-house Mainline hub dyno.
Our facility includes a Mainline ProHub dyno for tuning, diagnostics, testing and performance development.

Eight working bays.

Modern diagnostic, A/C and service equipment.

Major employee discounts on performance parts.

Weekly pay.

Most importantly, we're building a shop where talented technicians can do good work without constantly fighting their environment.

What You'll Be Doing

This is a hands-on technician position involving a mix of mechanical repair, diagnostics and performance work.

Depending on your experience, work may include:

  • Engine and drivetrain diagnosis and repair
  • Engine removal and installation
  • Camshaft and valvetrain upgrades
  • Supercharger and forced-induction installations
  • Fuel-system upgrades
  • Headers and exhaust systems
  • Suspension and brake work
  • Cooling systems
  • A/C diagnosis and repair
  • Electrical and drivability diagnostics
  • General mechanical repair
  • Performance vehicle troubleshooting
  • Pre- and post-dyno inspection and repair
  • Major component replacement and installation

We have dedicated tuning capabilities and a large performance-parts operation on site, so you'll be surrounded by people who understand the vehicles you're working on.

Who We're Looking For:

The ideal candidate has real professional shop experience and can be trusted with a vehicle and a repair order without constant supervision.

You should be comfortable diagnosing problems instead of simply replacing whatever part a scan tool points toward.

We're especially interested in technicians with experience in:

  • GM performance vehicles
  • LS/LT engines
  • Ford performance vehicles
  • Engine and drivetrain repair
  • Electrical diagnostics
  • Forced induction
  • Performance modifications
  • Advanced mechanical diagnosis

ASE or manufacturer certifications are valuable, but actual ability, experience and quality of work matter more to us than a wall full of certificates.

If you've worked at a dealership for years and you're tired of warranty times, loosing hours to good-will repairs, politics and repetitive work, we want to talk to you.

If you're already at an independent shop but want better equipment, better working conditions and more interesting cars, we want to talk to you too.

What We Expect

We aren't looking for the cheapest technician we can hire. We're looking for someone good.

That means:

  • You show up when you're supposed to.
  • You take pride in your work.
  • You can diagnose rather than guess.
  • You keep your work area reasonably clean.
  • You respect customer vehicles.
  • You communicate when you find a problem.
  • You don't hide mistakes.
  • You understand that doing it right matters more than doing it twice.
  • You can work independently while still being part of a team.

We don't expect anyone to know everything.

We do expect an experienced technician to know what they know, recognize what they don't know, and be capable of figuring things out.

A Different Kind of Automotive Shop

NTHP isn't trying to be another high-volume general repair chain.

We're building a serious performance and service facility with the equipment, people and resources to tackle jobs other shops can't or won't.

Our shop and SMG Speed Shop operate together, giving us direct access to a huge range of performance parts and manufacturers.

If you're the technician at your current shop who gets handed the difficult jobs, the modified cars, the weird diagnostic problems or the projects nobody else wants to touch, you're probably the person we'd like to meet.

Think You're That Tech?

Apply through ZipRecruiter with your work history and experience.

Tell us what you're best at.

If you've built something you're particularly proud of, tell us about that too.

We'd rather talk to one excellent technician than interview twenty mediocre ones.
