Join our Marion team as a Journeyman Tool & Die Technician and be the go-to expert for precision die fabrication, repair, and in-press optimization for high-volume stamping. If you thrive on solving complex tooling challenges and keeping production on beat, this is where you’ll do your best work.
Your impact
- Fabricate and repair dies across multiple materials, including required welding
- Translate blueprints into accurate setups and precision results
- Perform die tryouts and in-press troubleshooting to restore capability fast
- Run mills, lathes, grinders, and hand tools with mastery
- Use calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and similar instruments to hold tight tolerances
- Move heavy tooling with a hi-lo or overhead crane safely and efficiently
- Adhere to OSHA and GM safety protocols at all times
- Record measurements and work performed; enter data using basic computer skills
Essential qualifications
- DOL-recognized Completion of Apprenticeship as a Die Maker OR 6+ years verified Die Maker experience
- Age 18 or older
- Willing to work day/afternoon/night shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays with little notice
- Current GM employees under a CBA should contact local HR/LR for placement opportunities
Pay and benefits
Role may be filled as Journeyperson in Training (JIT) at $37.88–$44.19/hr or as a Journeyperson at $45.09/hr. Status and rate are based on your credentials and interview scoring. GM UAW hourly positions offer competitive pay and benefits with potential annual incentive eligibility. Relocation and travel are candidate-paid.
Physical requirements
- Rapid response to safety instructions, alarms, and signals
- Extended standing; frequent movement through a busy plant
- Comfort with PPE
- Ability to bend, twist, kneel, crouch, and reach
- Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. (department dependent)
- Occasional seated work; operate mobile equipment as needed
