Job Summary:

Provides day-to-day supervision of security/fire staff at assigned site(s) for the General Motors account and may travel from site to site as necessary. Functions as mentor to security supervisors and officers.

  • Assures compliance with General Motors Global Security Manual, local site specific Standard Operating Procedures, as well as Supplier Standard Operating Procedures and Policy Manual.
  • Carries out all responsibilities in an honest, ethical and professional manner.
  • Evaluates risks and ensures adequate coverage for assigned General Motors site(s). This includes compliance with post orders, associated regulations, and the General Motors Global Security Manual.
  • Advises management of emergency situations and ensures subordinates respond appropriately.
  • Researches and makes recommendations on the implementation of the best demonstrated practices and other key initiatives; ensures supplier policies and procedures are implemented and adhered to.
  • Interfaces with plant/ site management to discuss security/ fire services provided, identifies problem areas, provides advice and recommendations for security solutions and takes corrective action. Implements theft prevention related actions and tracks ongoing tasks in relation to these activities to resolution/closure.
  • Assists in the selection, orientation, development and retention of staff in compliance with Government regulations.
  • Provides emergency response advice to management and ensures security staff respond to emergencies appropriately.
  • Ensure Security staff deployment schedules are developed to meet General Motors requirements.
  • Ensures security staff is trained to perform General Motors requirements.
  • Follow-up with other members of the GM Global Security Operations to discuss progress and related issues, assuring deadlines are met and consistency of practices exists.
  • Conducts quarterly and annual reviews utilizing the Security Compliance System. Maintains Corrective Actions and Recommendations.
  • Conducts annual site vulnerability assessment to ensure General Motors compliance and provides recommendation on operations, policy, and technology applications to plant / site management.
  • Ensures General Motors is billed accurately for Security Services. Conducts weekly billing audit to ensure compliance.
  • Monitors compliance with regulatory and fire protection requirements and safety items assigned by General Motors.
  • Develops, maintains, and coordinates effective communication with outside emergency responders.
  • Ensures the correct and consistent administration of the GM/ Supplier Service Agreement. Ensures compliance with all General Motors Labor Agreements.
  • Maintain data and records following General Motors Record Retention guidelines and requirements.
  • Ensures confidentiality and discretion of information.
  • Able to perform multiple functions from multiple resources while appropriately prioritizing assignments as needed.
  • Makes recommendations on managerial methods in order to improve workflow, simplify reporting procedures or implement cost reductions.
  • Ability to organize workload for effective implementation.
  • Responds to all site emergencies and directs Security Activities. Ensures shift security staff responds and reacts appropriately via site procedures and Supplier/ General Motors Policies and Procedures.
  • Responds to fire emergencies at the site as part of the site Fire Brigade and assist and/or attempt to extinguish incipient stage fires utilizing extinguishers and fire hose.
  • Assures that all incidents are reported, documented, and communicated in accordance with procedures. Identifies trends and ensures that appropriate corrective action is communicated and taken. Completes and provides follow up as needed.
  • Maintains basic First Aid and CPR certifications.
  • Ensures hot work permit process is properly administered and maintained.
  • May supervise security staff in fire functions.
  • Reports to designated site management/GM Global Security.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or its equivalent. (Any deviations from the minimum educational requirement must meet the approval of General Motors Global Security.)
  • Two years of progressively responsible Security or related experience- five preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of security operations required.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and carry out responsibilities under general supervision.
  • Ability to organize workload for effective implementation.
  • Strong analytical skills needed to analyze complex data and develop reasonable analysis, appropriate conclusions and/ or innovative solutions.
  • Demonstrates planning, organizational and project management skills.
  • Demonstrates verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong managerial skills and the ability to assert oneself.
  • Ability to act in a decisive manner in emergency situations.
  • Ability to physically respond to all medical emergencies.
  • Ability to assist in facilitating progressive change.
  • Ability to interact effectively at all levels and across diverse cultures.
  • Ability to be an effective team member.
  • Strong diplomacy skills and sensitivity protocol.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and utilize sound judgment.
  • Working knowledge of card access, security and safety systems.
