Position Description: We are seeking a Risk Engineer to support our Subcontractor Default Insurance product. The position requires application of strong construction management experience to a broad range of Contractor customers to provide consultation, training, and support of the SDI product, with the purpose of reducing overall cost of risk for both the contractor and Hudson. This position will service a national territory, with a focus on the Southeast and Southwest. Travel is anticipated to be 40%.
Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Underwriting in the due diligence of prospective Hudson SDI customers.
  • Provide feedback and risk improvement recommendations to Contractor partners and jointly develop an effective service plan that is tailored to individual customer needs and reduces the overall cost of risk for all partners.
  • Provide support of the complete SDI program lifecycle - including relevant consultation, training, and assessment of controls, risk identification, customer feedback, project visits, program referral support and related customer meetings.
  • Consult with customers and Hudson Claims management on administration, mitigation, and lessons learned from subcontractor default claims.
  • Enhance the Hudson SDI business through active engagement of prospective clients, including industry presentations, meetings, and related activities in coordination with Underwriting.
  • Enhance the Hudson SDI product through advancement of protocols and tools that reduce the overall cost of subcontractor default risk.
  • Build credibility with and create customer satisfaction by demonstrating the value of risk control services.

Qualifications:
  • 7-10 (or more) years of direct construction experience; may include Contractor, Owner, or other related construction businesses.
  • Strong, relatable working knowledge and understanding of entire construction project lifecycle is required, including preconstruction, estimating, purchasing, project management, and project closeout.
  • Direct experience with subcontractor prequalification, subcontractor selection, contracting, project/subcontractor management, scheduling, quality management, construction claims, and default management is preferred.
  • Ability to apply construction experience to a broad range of customers, consult effectively on a comprehensive range of construction management practices, and identify exposures/assess controls on complex construction accounts is required. Flexible in applying procedures that are relevant to the contractor's exposures, practices, and overall culture.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential. Communicates effectively with broad range of customer and underwriting partners. The successful candidate will listen effectively and make sound assessments/conclusions based on review of written procedures, discussions, and observations. Makes technical information and recommendations understandable to broad range of audiences. Communicates in a manner that influences others to accept and take action on recommendations.
  • The candidate will be a self-starter, continually looking towards individual and professional development.
  • Must be capable of managing schedule and resources, continually assessing workload considering business priorities, and directing own efforts accordingly while working in a remote work environment.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team, proactively across Hudson's entire business, and effectively with internal and external partners on special projects and furthering business goals.
  • No travel restrictions, domestic or international, valid driver's license required.
