Job description

About Scope3
Scope3 operates the Interchange for agent-to-agent advertising - the place where brands and their agents discover, negotiate, and transact across every advertising surface that matters: social, CTV, audio, AI interfaces, sponsored intelligence, and those still emerging. Built on AdCP, the open protocol for agentic advertising, with governance, transparent pricing, and full auditability built into every transaction.
Scope3 works with leading advertisers, agencies, publishers, and platforms globally, with teams across North America, Europe, and APAC.
We're a venture-backed company of 65 fully remote team members and are fortunate to be led by an experienced leadership team, many of whom designed and engineered the digital advertising landscape as we know it today.
About the Role
Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will serve as a strategic finance leader, driving the financial integrity and operational foundation behind a company redefining how global advertising works in the AI era. This leader will be responsible for all accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance, and treasury management, ensuring Scope3 scales with precision as our agentic advertising platform experiences rapid growth. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in marketplace or platform business models with experience managing complex revenue recognition, multi-currency operations, and international subsidiary compliance.
For this position, we are looking to hire in the US, specifically located within Eastern Standard Time to optimize for global collaboration.
Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the company's month-end and quarter-end close process, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting
  • Own consolidated financial reporting for internal stakeholders and external functions including investors, auditors, and regulatory bodies
  • Manage the company's annual audit and coordinate preparation of federal and state tax returns
  • Work with third-party vendors to ensure statutory compliance of international subsidiaries across multiple jurisdictions
  • Manage the company's treasury function including cash management, forecasting, and banking relationships
  • Oversee global payroll operations and ensure compliance with local regulations
  • Collaborate with functional leads to build out and refine budget reporting, variance analysis, and financial planning processes
  • Develop and maintain robust accounting policies, internal controls, and procedures to support the company's growth trajectory
  • Partner closely with FP&A, Legal, and Operations teams to support strategic initiatives and business expansion
  • Lead and mentor the accounting team, building capability and capacity as the organization scales
  • Drive continuous improvement in financial systems and processes, identifying opportunities for automation and efficiency

Previous Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting; active CPA license required
  • 10-15 years of progressive accounting and finance experience with significant time in a Controller or Assistant Controller role
  • Scale-up or high-growth company experience required, preferably in enterprise adtech, marketplace, or platform businesses
  • Experience working with and implementing financial systems including ERPs and billing systems
  • Demonstrated ability to scale operations with a lean team, focusing on people, process, and technology improvements
  • Hands-on experience managing annual audits with national accounting firms
  • Marketplace or platform experience with understanding of transaction clearing and complex revenue recognition
  • Experience managing and consolidating legal entities across multiple jurisdictions with different functional currencies
  • Extensive knowledge of US GAAP and international accounting standards
  • Strong technical accounting skills with ability to research and document complex accounting treatments

Preference may be given to candidates with the following:
  • Advertising technology, media, or internet industries
  • Usage-based or consumption-based billing models
  • ASC 606 revenue recognition in complex, multi-element arrangements
  • Wayfair ruling tax matters and nexus considerations for digital services
  • Working remotely in globally distributed startup environments
  • Treasury management in multi-currency environments

Our Culture & Values
  • Transparency and shared learning. We believe in building and learning in public, embracing collaborative design, and ensuring knowledge flows freely across the organization. We have no gatekeepers-everyone has access to the information they need to do their best work and contribute to our collective growth.
  • Clear and empathetic communication, especially while working asynchronously. We have always been a global, remote-first company and we collaborate using Notion, Miro, Slack, Loom, and other tools.
  • We celebrate healthy conflict in the workplace; we focus on the solutions and we move on quickly.
  • The ability and accountability to deliver what we promise. We do what we say we will do, and we don't make promises we can't keep.
  • Experience driving systemic change. Our mission is to transform advertising for the AI era and this requires a holistic approach to re-imagining and inspiring an industry movement at a global scale.

200,000 - 250,000 USD per year (Remote (United States))
