The U.S. Utilities Environmental Compliance Manager will be responsible for overseeing environmental compliance for AES's US Utilities facilities in Indiana and Ohio and managing environmental professionals implementing compliance measures across the facilities.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide management of environmental professionals at AES US Utilities to ensure compliance with all applicable environmental regulations and requirements in partnership with local operational business leaders.
  • Oversee activities associated with environmental compliance, including monitoring systems, emission testing, effluent sampling, inspections, recordkeeping, and reporting.
  • Regularly interface with Operations to ensure compliance, continuous improvement, environmental budgeting and support of business objectives.
  • Maintain working knowledge of U.S., state (Indiana and Ohio), and local regulations applicable to the facilities and provide guidance to direct reports on such topics with support from corporate Environmental Affairs staff.
  • Communicate opportunities to U.S. Utilities Operations and Construction and corporate Environmental Affairs staff and assist in developing and implementing appropriate strategies.
  • Initiate, in conjunction with other departments, education and training to ensure that employees are equipped to operate in an environmentally responsible manner and to promote development of environmental professionals.
  • Coordinate environmental performance metric reporting for operations.
  • Implement and lead team to participate in EHS&S programs, including corporate reporting, auditing, and compliance with standards.
  • Lead and assist operating sites in the consistent implementation of corporate policies and programs.
  • Facilitate collaboration with environmental professionals and Operations and Construction teams to encourage information sharing, team building, and professional development.
  • Coordinate with corporate Environmental Affairs and Sustainability departments to support information requests, planning for new/developing regulatory requirements, and program improvements.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, science-related field, or environmental-related field.
  • M.S. in environmental field preferred.
  • 10+ years related environmental management experience in a large industrial, processing, manufacturing, or electrical power environment. Experience in power (thermal generation, renewables, and T&D) business preferred.
  • Strong leadership skills with minimum four (4) years of experience managing direct reports.
  • Personal values consistent with those of the AES Corporation: Safety First, Highest Standards, and All Together.
  • Demonstrated experience and success leading a distributed team of environmental professionals and working collaboratively with diverse business units.
  • Multi-media environmental compliance and reporting experience, including CWA, CAA, RCRA, CCR, EPCRA, MBTA, BGEPA, ESA.
  • Knowledge of NEPA and DOT and USFWS regulations preferred.
  • Knowledge of applicable permits and regulations required for power generation, transmission, and distribution.
  • Demonstrated high level of interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with site operational leadership and corporate Environmental Affairs.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Experience with ISO 14001 preferred.
  • Competency in MS Office software, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point [as well as geospatial mapping software].

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:
  • This is a Full-time position and will be based out of one of AES's US locations in Indianapolis, IN (preferred) or Dayton, OH.
  • This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment.
  • This role involves regular travel within Indiana and Ohio.
