The Role

Moonbug is seeking a highly experienced and strategic commercial lawyer to join its growing global Legal & Business Affairs team in a very exciting and growing global entertainment business. This role will act as a key legal partner to senior business stakeholders, providing expert, commercially-driven legal advice across brand partnerships, marketing, and broader commercial initiatives for our much loved brands including CoComelon and Blippi. As part of the legal team of over 20 people in London, LA and Singapore, you will enjoy a creative, challenging and collaborative environment where your ideas will be every bit as valued as your legal expertise.

This role is based ON-SITE in our New York, NY (Located in NOMAD)

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Legal Leadership

  • Serve as a legal lead for commercial, brand partnership, and marketing matters in the US negotiating brand partnership and sales deals along with marketing and advertising related agreements including sponsorship, endorsement, brand ambassador, influencers, prize provider, and promotional agreements.
  • Provide strategic, forward-looking legal advice aligned with Moonbug's growth objectives and risk appetite.
  • Lead on complex transactions, structuring innovative and commercially effective solutions.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of legal strategies, policies, and frameworks across the business.

Trusted Business Partner

  • Proven ability to serve as a trusted business partner to internal clients, delivering solution-oriented legal counsel that enables business goals.
  • Influence key commercial decisions by providing proactive, solution-oriented legal guidance.
  • Build strong, credible relationships across the organization and with external partners.

Commercial & Legal Expertise

  • Lead negotiation and drafting of sophisticated commercial agreements, including:
    • Global brand partnerships
    • Advertising, sponsorship, and endorsement deals
  • Provide expert advice on advertising, marketing, and regulatory compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Oversee and manage legal risk in complex and ambiguous situations.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Support capability building, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement within the legal team.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Represent Moonbug in external negotiations with major partners, agencies, and counterparties.
  • Collaborate with global legal colleagues to ensure alignment and consistency across regions.

Autonomy & Ownership

  • Operate with a high degree of independence, owning critical projects and legal work streams end-to-end.
  • Effectively prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced environment, exercising strong judgment on escalation.
  • Drive matters through to successful outcomes with accountability for both legal and commercial impact.

Requirements

  • 8-10+ years' experience in a leading law firm and/or in-house within media, entertainment, technology, or consumer sectors.
  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and a valid license to practice law in New York or California.
  • Extensive experience of commercial contract drafting and negotiating
  • Demonstrated expertise in commercial, advertising, and brand partnership matters.
  • Deep understanding of relevant regulatory frameworks (e.g., FTC, COPPA, FCC).
  • Knowledge of YouTube channels and advertising on such channels is desirable as is some knowledge of UK/EU advertising laws, data protection.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to balance legal risk and commercial objectives.
  • Experience influencing senior stakeholders and contributing to strategic decision-making.
  • Ability to work proactively, independently and reliably on multiple projects under tight timeframes in a fast-paced environment.
