Global Environmental Health & Safety Manager

Location: Spring Lake, Michigan

Reports to: EQI Senior Vice President of Operations

Travel: 30โ€“45% domestic and international travel


Position Summary

The Global Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for developing, leading, and executing EQIโ€™s global EHS strategy. This position ensures a safe, compliant, and sustainable working environment across operations in the United States, Canada, China, India, and Northern Ireland.


The Global EHS Manager champions a culture of safety excellence and continuous improvement while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, industry standards, and company requirements. This individual partners with executive leadership and cross-functional teams to reduce risk, standardize practices, and strengthen operational EHS performance across a geographically diverse organization.


This is a hands-on strategic leadership role responsible for translating corporate EHS expectations into consistent site-level execution, measurable risk reduction, and sustained accountability across all locations.


Key Responsibilities

Global EHS Strategy and Leadership

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive global EHS strategy aligned with EQIโ€™s business objectives.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the EHS Council and site-level stakeholders.
  • Visit manufacturing facilities, warehouses, supplier locations, and offices to assess EHS risks, verify program implementation, and support site teams.
  • Establish standardized global policies, procedures, and performance expectations.
  • Promote a proactive, behavior-based safety culture across all regions.

Safety Culture and Risk Management

  • Lead company-wide initiatives designed to achieve an injury-free workplace.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate EHS risks across global operations and supply-chain partners.
  • Implement and sustain behavior-based safety programs and leading-indicator initiatives.
  • Ensure EHS considerations are integrated into operational and strategic decision-making.

Training and Compliance

  • Develop and oversee global EHS training programs to ensure workforce competency and regulatory compliance.
  • Establish global compliance expectations and collaborate with operations at each location to maintain compliance with applicable local, regional, and international EHS regulations.
  • Maintain and continuously improve corporate EHS policies and management systems.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and coordinate timely updates to policies, procedures, training programs, and site action plans.

Incident Management and Performance Analytics

  • Lead global incident reporting, investigations, root-cause analyses, corrective-action tracking, and lessons-learned communications.
  • Analyze EHS data, prepare reports, present recommendations, and follow up on high-priority actions.
  • Verify that corrective actions are completed and effective, and that relevant lessons are shared across applicable sites to prevent recurrence.
  • Develop, track, and report EHS key performance indicators, including leading and lagging indicators.
  • Provide executive leadership with regular performance updates and actionable insights.

Environmental and Regulatory Oversight

  • Oversee environmental compliance programs, including permits, regulatory reporting, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Monitor chemical exposure and ensure compliance with OSHA requirements and applicable global equivalents.
  • Support facility and equipment implementations by coordinating required EHS permits and risk assessments.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies and external auditors.

Auditing and Continuous Improvement

  • Lead internal and external EHS audits across global locations and key suppliers.
  • Use audit findings to identify systemic gaps, prioritize risk-based improvements, and drive corrective-action plans to closure.
  • Benchmark industry best practices and implement continuous-improvement initiatives.
  • Support the integration of EHS requirements into new business activities, supplier relationships, and acquisitions.

Cross-Functional and Global Collaboration

  • Partner with Operations, Engineering, Human Resources, Finance, and Supply Chain teams to embed EHS requirements into business processes.
  • Influence and support EHS performance and expectations throughout the global supplier network.
  • Drive alignment and effective communication across multiple regions, cultures, and regulatory environments.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • At least 10 years of progressive EHS experience, including leadership across multiple sites, countries, or regions with diverse cultures, languages, and regulatory environments.
  • Proven success implementing and managing EHS management systems and cultural-transformation initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of global EHS regulations and standards.
  • Experience with EHS software, data analytics, dashboards, and digital reporting tools.
  • Experience leading audits, investigations, and regulatory interactions.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder-engagement skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently and lead effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and sustain multi-site EHS program deployment, including procedures, audits, corrective actions, training, and management-system improvements.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally approximately 30โ€“45% of the time.

Preferred

  • Professional certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or an equivalent credential.
  • Experience in metal casting, machining, industrial painting, fabrication, or other manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with materials such as gray iron, ductile iron, steel, and aluminum.
  • Experience supporting global supply chains and supplier EHS programs.
  • Knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.
