The ideal candidate combines exceptional writing and editorial judgment with strong digital marketing experience across social media, email marketing, SEO, marketing automation, and performance reporting.
The Content Manager will partner closely with marketing, digital strategy, sales, HR, subject matter experts, and executive leadership to turn business priorities, market insights, and internal expertise into compelling content that drives measurable impact. This role will also support event-related content and communications in partnership with the Events Specialist and broader marketing team.
Reporting Structure and Collaboration
This position reports directly to the Director of Marketing and serves as a key member of Horizontal's global marketing team.
The Content Manager will collaborate closely with cross-functional partners across the organization, including digital strategy, creative, marketing project management, events, sales and account management, HR and talent acquisition, solution leaders, subject matter experts, executive leadership, contract writing support, and global marketing colleagues across the United States and APAC markets.
Success in this role requires strong communication, organization, project management, and stakeholder management skills, along with the ability to balance strategic ownership with hands-on execution in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Content Ownership
  • Own Horizontal's global content strategy and integrated editorial calendar, ensuring content aligns to business priorities, campaign goals, audience needs, and measurable outcomes.
  • Manage the end-to-end content workflow from intake and planning through execution, distribution, measurement, and optimization in partnership with Marketing and Digital Strategy leaders.
  • Collaborate with global marketing teams to support regional needs while maintaining consistency with Horizontal's brand voice, messaging, and editorial standards.
  • Identify opportunities to repurpose and scale content across social, email, web, sales enablement, events, PR, and thought leadership.

Content Creation and Editorial Development
  • Write, edit, and develop high-quality B2B content across thought leadership, case studies, executive/SME interviews, blogs, website content, PR, email, social, and sales enablement.
  • Translate complex topics, market insights, and subject matter expert input into clear, compelling content tailored to target audiences.
  • Apply strong editorial judgment to content planning, messaging, structure, tone, and storytelling while ensuring alignment with brand standards and channel best practices.
  • Bring experience in B2B, staffing, recruiting, workforce solutions, professional services, or technology; highly preferred.
  • Develop brand visibility content, including press releases, award submissions, sponsorship materials, thought leadership, case studies, and other content that elevates Horizontal's reputation in the market.
  • Own Horizontal's global social media strategy as part of the broader editorial and campaign calendar.
  • Manage planning, creation, scheduling, publishing, optimization, and reporting for social content across relevant platforms; Sprout Social experience strongly preferred.
  • Monitor engagement, audience growth, platform trends, and content performance to provide actionable recommendations.
  • Support employee advocacy by creating scalable processes, content prompts, and guidance that help employees and leaders share content authentically.

Email Marketing and Marketing Automation
  • Build and manage email campaigns, newsletters, nurture sequences, event promotions, and follow-up communications for campaigns, webinars, conferences, sponsorships, and hosted events.
  • Develop automated workflows that support lead generation, customer engagement, event follow-up, and audience nurturing.
  • Partner with marketing and sales stakeholders to align email content with campaign goals, audience segments, and conversion objectives.
  • Analyze and optimize email performance across messaging, segmentation, subject lines, calls to action, deliverability, and conversions; HubSpot or similar platform experience preferred.
  • Experience with HubSpot or similar marketing automation platforms is preferred.

SEO and Website Content Collaboration
  • Create and assist in optimization of website-related content in alignment with SEO best practices and digital strategy.
  • Partner with the Director of Digital and Web Strategy on website content updates, SEO priorities, landing pages, content refreshes, and performance improvements.
  • Apply SEO fundamentals to content planning, writing, metadata, internal linking, keyword usage, and content structure.

AI-Enabled Content Operations
  • Leverage AI tools, including Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, and other emerging technologies, to improve content ideation, research, drafting, editing, repurposing, and workflow efficiency.
  • Identify opportunities to automate repetitive content and marketing tasks while maintaining accuracy, quality, originality, and brand alignment.
  • Develop practical ways to use AI to scale content production, improve speed to market, and support stronger content operations.
  • Stay current on emerging AI trends, tools, and best practices relevant to content marketing, social media, and marketing operations.

  • Bring structure to ambiguous requests, proactively gather input, manage feedback, and translate business needs into actionable content plans.
  • Partner with the Events Specialist and broader marketing team to support webinars, conferences, sponsorships, and hosted events, including promotional content, landing pages, follow-up communications, and event-related content logistics.

Performance Reporting and Optimization
  • Track, analyze, and report on content performance across social, email, campaigns, events, and other marketing channels.
  • Use data and insights to evaluate content effectiveness, identify trends, and recommend improvements.
  • Connect content performance to broader marketing goals, including engagement, brand awareness, lead generation, pipeline support, customer engagement, and revenue influence.
  • Continuously optimize content strategy based on performance data, audience behavior, stakeholder feedback, and business priorities.
  • Measure and optimize content performance tied to campaigns, events, social, email, web, PR, and brand visibility initiatives.
