Job description

General Purpose:

Responsible for operating the tempering oven, air quench and water quench to insure a consistently high quality of glass through the tempering process. NOTE: Wearing personal protective equipment - a face shield, ear muffs, ear plugs, steel toe shoes/boots and Kevlar gloves are mandatory.

Essential Functions:

· Adjusts and maintains required temperature in the tempering oven as well as regulating the speed of the glass going through it

· Quickly clears air and water quenches and keeps them free of broken glass to avoid causing additional defects to glass

· Must always be at work area, never leave unattended.

· Keeps records of all rejects that occur in the tempering oven and air quench

· Works with Final Inspectors, Quality Assurance Technician, Spray Booth Technician, and Production Supervisor to resolve problems on the line.

· Performs general clean-up tasks upon request

· Cleans tempering oven, air and water quench. Places broken/discarded glass in waste container.

· Assists maintenance with replacing minor components on operating equipment.

· Change rollers and rubber rings as needed

· Does all other duties assigned

Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements:

· High School Diploma or GED, plus six months of experience or appropriate training and one year of experience

· An individual is considered qualified upon notification by the PS or department head to the DHR that the employee has successfully completed the training and is qualified to perform the position. Notation of this notification is made in the employee’s training record.

· Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, work instructions and professional literature

· Ability to speak some English

· Ability to write routine reports and make daily reports that involve mathematical skills

· Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, divide and calculate percentages as well as to plot common graphs.

· Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in either written, oral or diagram form.
