Company Description: H.J. Martin and Son is a specialty contractor with services in residential & commercial flooring, commercial glass, walls & ceilings, doors, hardware & specialties, and millwork & FF&E, along with national retail solutions, including fixture installation. Founded in 1931, the fourth-generation company works nationwide from its headquarters in Green Bay, WI.
Position Description
Position Description: This position is responsible for managing all project activities including, but not limited to, preliminary estimates, budgets, financial control, scheduling, coordination of job site activity, project close-out and owner occupancy.
Principal Responsibilities:
  • Help strengthen the relationship with our customers, so we are the top company in quality and capacity, by focusing on communication and execution for our installer base
  • Actively call on potential customers to increase client base by attending trade shows, making company visits, and continuously following up through phone calls and emails
  • Complete bid sheets, including labor estimates, general conditions, subcontractor costs, to project the cost of projects
  • Prepare project proposals/bids making sure to clearly list pricing and any special conditions or exclusions that may apply, to avoid confusion regarding the specifics of a bid
  • Complete job activation sheets for projects that have been awarded
  • Assist in pre-project planning and training with crew members
  • Work with customers and Installation Coordinator to determine a schedule for work
  • Provide staffing needs to the Installation Coordinator for upcoming projects to plan installation staffing
  • Review project specifics with Installation Coordinator and make them aware of any special conditions of a job
  • Manage subcontractors including bid/scope/awards, scheduling, managing changes, confirming permit submission & inspections and approving invoices. Upload information to database for future use of subcontractors. Complete written scopes of work for general contracting remodels.
  • Analyze job sites for potential problems or issues that may arise during installation, and use this information to accurately project worker production
  • Troubleshoot and problem solve when unexpected issues arise on a project to minimize lost time and ensure customer satisfaction
  • Track progress of projects and maintain communication with Installation Coordinator to ensure production goals are met
  • Communicate with customers during and after installation to make sure their expectations are met and they are satisfied with the final product
  • Maintain ratings for local employees with contact information, specific descriptions, project information, and superintendent. This will help us when we are back in the area of an out of state location.
  • Implement best practices and lessons learned from past jobs. Help with project manuals and customer-focused training binders
  • Check final project results, compare to estimates, and look for ways to improve

Other Duties As Assigned: Performs other related duties as assigned including supporting team members in the completion of their work for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the team.
Position Requirements
Experience/Education Required:
  • Minimum 5 years experience in construction related activities
  • Four-year degree is preferred, plus experience in the field
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and professional communication, both verbal and written
  • Strong ability to use good judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Highly organized, and ability to handle multiple project/tasks simultaneously with strong follow up skills
  • Capacity to handle situations with calm demeanor and approach
  • Ability to read and interpret construction blueprints, contracts, and specifications
