About the job
Position Summary
The Glass Plant Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and actively participating in the daily operations of the insulated glass (IG) production area. This is a working supervisor role, meaning this position will lead the team while also working alongside them on the production floor. The Supervisor ensures production goals are met while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.
What This Role Oversees and Supports (Working Supervisor Responsibilities)
• Direct oversight of the IG production line, including glass cutting, washing, spacer application, assembly, sealing, and final inspection
• Daily coordination of team members across all IG production stations to ensure smooth workflow and balanced production
• Hands-on involvement in production to support the team during high volume, call-offs, or bottlenecks
• Real-time troubleshooting of equipment, product issues, and process delays to keep production moving
• Monitoring glass quality, seal integrity, and overall unit performance to meet company standards
• Ensuring proper material flow, including glass, spacers, sealants, and finished units
• Supporting training of new hires and cross-training of existing team members directly on the floor
• Reinforcing safety practices by actively working alongside employees and modeling safe behaviors
• Communicating production priorities and updates throughout the shift
Key Responsibilities
• Supervise day-to-day operations of the IG glass production line, including scheduling, workflow, and staffing
• Meet or exceed daily and weekly production goals while maintaining quality standards
• Promote and uphold a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with all OSHA and company policies
• Train, coach, and develop employees, providing ongoing feedback and support
• Troubleshoot production and equipment issues, coordinating with maintenance as needed
• Monitor and report on key metrics such as output, efficiency, scrap, and downtime
• Ensure proper setup, operation, and care of all IG production equipment
• Maintain accurate production records and documentation
• Drive continuous improvement efforts to enhance productivity and reduce waste
Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or technical training preferred
• 3-5 years of manufacturing experience, preferably in glass, window, or related industry
• Previous supervisory or team lead experience required
• Strong understanding of insulated glass production processes is highly preferred
• Hands-on mechanical aptitude with the ability to operate and troubleshoot equipment
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Effective communication and leadership abilities
• Ability to lead by example and work side-by-side with the team
Physical Requirements
• Ability to stand and move throughout the entire shift
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as needed
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks and work in a fast-paced environment
