Github Remote information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a GitHub Remote employee, and why are they important?

To thrive as a GitHub Remote employee, you generally need strong software development skills, experience with version control (especially Git), and familiarity with open-source collaboration, often backed by a relevant degree or significant practical experience. Proficiency with GitHub's platform, code review tools, CI/CD systems, and cloud-based workflows is essential. Excellent written communication, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently in a distributed environment are standout soft skills. These skills and qualities are crucial for delivering high-quality projects, collaborating effectively across time zones, and contributing to GitHub’s distributed, open-source-driven culture.

What can I expect from the onboarding process when joining GitHub as a remote employee?

When you join GitHub as a remote employee, you can expect a structured onboarding process designed to help you integrate smoothly with your team and the company's culture. The process typically includes virtual orientation sessions, access to extensive documentation, and a dedicated onboarding buddy or mentor to guide you through your first few weeks. You'll participate in team meetings via video calls and use collaboration tools like Slack and GitHub itself to stay connected. This supportive environment helps new hires quickly adapt to remote workflows and build strong relationships across teams.

What are Github Remote jobs?

Github Remote jobs are positions offered by GitHub or companies using GitHub that allow employees to work from locations outside of a traditional office setting. These roles can span various departments such as engineering, customer support, product management, and more. Remote jobs at GitHub typically emphasize collaboration through online tools, flexible schedules, and self-motivation. Working remotely for GitHub or in a GitHub-centric environment means using GitHub's platform for version control, code review, and project management, making it essential to be comfortable with digital communication and teamwork.

Can you make money off of GitHub?

A GitHub remote job typically involves software development, coding, or related technical tasks, and you can earn income through employment or freelance projects. Many developers monetize their GitHub profiles by showcasing their work to attract clients or employers, but direct earnings usually come from paid positions or contracts rather than GitHub itself. Skills in programming, version control, and collaboration are essential for success in such roles.

Job description

Join a Mission That Matters

Torch.AI builds the government's AI-native control layer-a foundational data and intelligence capability designed to give the United States enduring ownership over how knowledge is created, managed, and applied in mission-critical environments. Our vision is simple and profound: ensure the U.S.-not a vendor-operates its own AI infrastructure to make decisive, real-time operational decisions.

We work at the center of national security, helping agencies transform data into actionable knowledge across domains including information advantage, ISR, joint effects, force protection, and mission support. If you're driven to build technology that strengthens U.S. defense readiness and protects national interests, Torch.AI offers an opportunity to make meaningful impact at national scale.

What It's Like to Work Here

Torch.AI operates at the intersection of advanced AI, secure systems, and real-world operations. We solve complex, high-stakes problems by building scalable, modular technology that reduces cognitive burden, improves mission performance, and delivers timely, reliable, predictive intelligence.

Here, you'll collaborate with a diverse team of engineers, data experts, veterans, and mission practitioners. You'll have the autonomy to own meaningful work and the support of teammates who share context openly, challenge assumptions, and think creatively. Every day brings something different-early prototypes, production deployments, mission support, or scaling next-generation capabilities.

We're a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment where curiosity, adaptability, and a deep commitment to national security drive everything we do.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute comprehensive manual and automated test plans for full-stack, data, and AI-enabled systems.
  • Build and maintain modular automated test suites, but not full automation framework ownership.
  • Contribute to CI/CD testing stages (e.g., adding automated steps, maintaining test jobs); does not own full pipeline architecture.
  • Perform functional, integration, regression, performance, and basic security testing.
  • Validate large datasets and data transformation correctness across data fusion and ETL pipelines.
  • Participate in code reviews to identify risk areas and ensure new features include adequate test coverage.
  • Document defects, collaborate with development teams, and verify bug fixes efficiently.
  • Create and update tests as part of the code review and sprint development cycle.
  • Provide feedback to improve testability, quality, and user experience.
  • Contribute to quality metrics dashboards (defects, coverage, test cycle duration).
  • Ensure QA practices align with security, compliance, and mission-readiness standards.

What We Value

  • 4+ years of professional QA/testing experience in complex or data-driven systems.
  • Experience writing automated tests with tools/frameworks such as Selenium, Cypress, PyTest, JUnit, Postman/Newman, or equivalent.
  • Hands-on experience with at least one CI/CD system (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins).
  • Familiarity with distributed systems, data-heavy applications, ETL workflows, or AI/ML product testing.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python/JavaScript/Java) sufficient to write test scripts and basic utilities.
  • Strong analytical, debugging, and defect triage skills.
  • Strong communication skills across engineering, product, and mission teams.
  • Nice-to-have (not required):
    • Experience with performance testing tools (Locust, JMeter)
    • Exposure to security testing or SSDLC practices
    • Familiarity with high-side or secure deployment environments
    • Experience testing microservices, event-driven systems, or data fusion pipelines
