Title:

Remote Sensing Requirements Analyst

BELONG. CONNECT. GROW. with KBR.

Around here, we define the future. We are a company of innovators, thinkers, creators, explorers, volunteers, and dreamers. But we all share one goal: to improve the world responsibly and safely.

Role Overview:

KBR is seeking an organized and proactive early-career Systems Engineer to support our U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Land Imaging (NLI) Program customer in Reston, VA. This role is part of the Requirements, Capabilities, and Analysis for Earth Observation (RCA-EO) contract, which is dedicated to gathering the needs of remote sensing scientists, modeling remote sensing capabilities, and producing comprehensive decision-support analyses. These efforts directly inform the National Land Imaging Program's strategic investments, particularly concerning the Landsat Mission.

This position offers a unique opportunity for a motivated early-career professional to contribute to national-level Earth observation initiatives while building expertise in remote sensing, data analysis, and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support project teams in collecting, organizing, and analyzing remote sensing imagery user needs related to Earth observation and remote sensing applications.
  • Assist in data management, analysis, and visualization efforts to translate datasets and modeling outputs into clear, actionable insights (e.g., PowerBI, Tableau, or similar tools).
  • Contribute to remote sensing capability modeling and assessment activities under guidance from senior staff.
  • Develop written and visual deliverables (briefings, summaries, dashboards) for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Engage with interdisciplinary teams, including scientists, engineers, and federal partners, to support collaborative analysis efforts.
  • Apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to support ongoing RCA-EO analyses and emerging project needs.
  • Build foundational knowledge of remote sensing systems, satellite data, and Earth observation program objectives.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in GIS, remote sensing, engineering, data science or a related technical field.
  • 1-3 years of relevant work experience or equivalent combination of education and project-based experience.
  • Foundational knowledge or coursework in remote sensing, geospatial analysis, or satellite systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with data (e.g., data processing, analysis, or visualization through coursework, internships, or professional experience).
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Exposure to data visualization or analytics tools (e.g., PowerBI, Tableau, Python, R).
  • Experience supporting technical projects, research efforts, or government programs (internship or early-career roles acceptable).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to synthesize technical information for non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated initiative, adaptability, and willingness to learn in a dynamic project environment.

Location & Work Environment:

This position operates out of the Washington, DC metropolitan area and offers the possibility of a hybrid work arrangement with at least 2 days in-office per week.

Rate: $81,900 - $122,800

The offered rate will be based on contract affordability and the selected candidate's working location, knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.

Additional Compensation:

KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be in the form of sign on bonus, relocation benefits, short term incentives, long term incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.

Program Context:

The RCA-EO contract provides a dynamic opportunity to shape the future of national land imaging and play a pivotal role in supporting the continued success of the Landsat Mission. This role is ideal for candidates interested in applying geospatial knowledge and data science skills to real-world national and scientific challenges.
