Job description

RS&H is currently seeking a GIS Specialist to join our team. This is an embedded position reporting to the FDOT D4 office 5 days per week.

The GIS Specialist / GIS Analyst is responsible for the full lifecycle of geospatial data and systems. This role includes developing and maintaining enterprise GIS databases, performing advanced spatial analysis, and administering GIS server environments. You will serve as a technical expert, providing guidance to other departments and ensuring the system supports data-driven decision-making across the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a GIS analyst programmer using current GIS technology and collaborate to design, develop, and test GIS applications.
  • Assist the FDOT Program Services section with the administration and maintenance of on-premises ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Online.
  • Serve as the point of contact for various GIS projects/assignments.
  • Assist the Program Services section with maintaining the GIS applications, servers, layers, and feature classes for all FDOT District Four offices.
  • Attend requirement gathering and GIS coordination meetings.
  • Define project tasks and execute on those tasks.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by the FDOT Manager.

To be successful in this role, you must:

  • Possess a Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, or a related field required (Master’s degree preferred), with 5 years of progressive GIS / Geospatial experience.
  • Have proficient level of knowledge in SQL and Python.
  • Have demonstrated written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to engage effectively with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Knowledge and experience with: 
    • ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Online Administration.
    • Esri desktop tools like ArcCatalog, ArcMap, ArcPro.
    • Multi-user environments and Version Management with ArcGIS.
    • Mapping and working with spatial data.
    • Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • Adobe Acrobat or similar PDF Program.
  • Ability to:
    • Work with existing ArcGIS databases, datasets and applications to develop an understanding of their use and integration capabilities. 
    • Develop solutions to ArcGIS needs using a combination of tools including app builders (ArcGIS Instant Apps, ArcGIS Dashboards, ArcGIS StoryMaps, and ArcGIS Experience Builder).
    • Work with FDOT ArcGIS Users developers, etc. to understand data landscape and needs.
    • Write clear technical documentation to support data development work
    • Collaborate with technical and nontechnical staff to understand client GIS needs.
  • Preferred Certifications:
    • GISP (Certified GIS Professional).
    • Esri Technical Certifications (e.g. ArcGIS Desktop or Enterprise).

Work Schedule and Location:

This is a full-time, in-person position based at FDOT District Four, Program Management Office, 3400 W Commercial Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309. The expected schedule is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The desired start date is immediate, and the position is anticipated to be long-term following a two-month trial period.
