Job description

Role: Enterprise GIS Architecture

Location: Remote (Travel may be required; candidate must be flexible across U.S. time zones)

Duration: 6+ month C2H

Overview

Client  internal IT Professionals team is seeking an experienced System Architect to support the Enterprise Architecture Practice Area. This role is ideal for a senior-level technology professional with deep expertise in enterprise GIS, infrastructure, and system design for large-scale utility-focused technology initiatives. You'll play a key role in designing, documenting, and implementing system architectures for both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Enterprise GIS Architecture (Esri ArcGIS)
    Deep hands-on experience designing, deploying, and supporting Esri ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Pro, and ArcGIS Online in complex environments is absolutely critical.
  • Enterprise System Design & Infrastructure Expertise
    Proven ability to design secure, scalable, and high-availability system architectures using technologies such as VMware, Citrix, Hyper-V, VPNs, VLANs, and DNS—especially in hybrid and private cloud settings.
  • Technical Leadership & Client Engagement
    Ability to lead technical discussions with utility clients, gather requirements, facilitate architecture workshops, and translate business needs into enterprise system solutions.
  • System Integration & Automation Tools
    Proficiency with tools like Kubernetes, Docker, Puppet, Chef, and Terraform, along with familiarity in integrating with platforms like Kafka, MuleSoft, and Azure DevOps.
  • Proposal Support & Documentation
    Strong written skills to contribute to proposals, create statements of work, technical diagrams, system sizing/cost estimates, and architecture documentation for internal and external stakeholders.

What You’ll Do

•             Lead enterprise GIS architecture efforts for utility clients, including requirements gathering and system design workshops

•             Design, implement, and optimize complex system architectures, including Esri-based GIS solutions and supporting infrastructure

•             Document solution specifications, including high-level and detailed architecture, test plans, deployment guides, and cost estimates

•             Support business development efforts through solution design, level-of-effort estimation, and proposal support

•             Advise and implement best practices around system scalability, performance, availability, and disaster recovery

•             Collaborate across departments including software development, DevOps, QA, and training

•             Educate internal and external stakeholders on Client architecture methodologies and enterprise GIS technologies

Required Qualifications

•             11–16 years of enterprise systems consulting experience, preferably with utility clients

•             6–11 years working with enterprise GIS platforms, particularly Esri (ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online)

•             Strong experience with system implementation, administration, and enterprise architecture

•             Hands-on expertise with datacenter and virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Citrix, Hyper-V)

•             Experience with IAM, DNS, VLANs, VPNs, load balancers, clustering, and failover strategies

•             Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365, Azure DevOps, and system monitoring tools (e.g., ArcGIS Monitor, Dynatrace)

•             Familiarity with container orchestration and automation tools such as Kubernetes, Docker, Puppet, Chef, or Terraform

•             Ability to translate business requirements into scalable, secure system designs

•             Experience with GPU configuration (NVIDIA/AMD), Citrix ADC, F5 BIG-IP, and reverse proxy technologies

•             Knowledge of integration platforms (Kafka, Boomi, MuleSoft)

•             Understanding of the Esri Well Architected Framework (WAF)
