Job Description
Client ย seeks a senior System Architect to drive enterprise GIS architecture for utility customers while supporting internal datacenter initiatives. The role leads client workshops, defines current state and future state architectures, authors solution designs and implementation road maps, and provides hands on guidance across servers, storage, networking, security, databases, and enterprise geodatabases. The architect partners with delivery teams for design, testing, tuning, documentation, licensing governance, and knowledge transfer to onshore and offshore personnel, ensuring scalable, secure, and highly available systems across private cloud, on premises, and hybrid environments.
Key Responsibilities

  • Lead GIS Enterprise Architecture workshops and prepare presentation content and discovery questions
  • Translate requirements and RFPs into solution designs, statements of work, levels of effort, and schedule
  • Provide technical leadership for design, implementation, assessment, consulting, and managed services
  • Support internal IT by designing server, storage, network, and appliance infrastructure in Client ย datacenters
  • Produce architectural diagrams covering software, hardware, network, security, databases, and integration
  • Author system architecture specifications and implementation release plans
  • Design database solutions including enterprise geodatabases
  • Validate requirements, determine configurations, and estimate system sizing using industry standard tools
  • Generate cost models and ROM estimates for production, DevOps, migration, and temporary environments
  • Advise clients on datacenter security and private network management best practices
  • Guide software development, quality assurance, and training teams on technical architecture
  • Establish and execute performance tuning and threshold testing and provide recommendations
  • Track software licensing and ensure compliance with agreements
  • Train UDC personnel to manage GIS infrastructure for managed service engagements
  • Educate stakeholders on client frameworks, methods, and market leading architectures
  • Mentor staff and strengthen relationships with partners and customers

Must-Have Skills

  • Eleven to sixteen years of enterprise system consulting on large scale technology projects for utilities or similar complex environments
  • Six to eleven years in enterprise GIS spanning system design, Enterprise Architecture, implementation, and administration
  • Deep expertise deploying and supporting Esri ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Pro, and ArcGIS Online
  • Strong knowledge of private cloud, on premises, and hybrid architectures
  • Experience with virtual servers and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure
  • Proficiency with VLANs, firewalls, and security policies
  • Proficiency with Identity and Access Management
  • Knowledge of network and application load balancers and reverse proxies
  • Proficiency with private and public DNS and VPN
  • Experience with virtualization platforms such as VMware ESXi or vSphere or Citrix Hypervisor
  • Proficiency with databases, file shares, and storage repositories
  • Experience automating batch jobs and scheduled processes with replication
  • Expertise in high availability, redundancy, clustering, failover, and disaster recovery

Nice-To-Have Skills

  • Experience estimating ROI for multi zone and multi region designs using virtual machines or containers
  • Familiarity with DevOps environments and temporary migration environments
  • Experience creating comprehensive architecture documentation and deployment manuals
  • Background mentoring global teams and delivering managed services
  • Strong partner and customer engagement skills for market facing activities

Education

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Geography, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Relevant certifications preferred such as AWS or Azure architecture, VMware, or Esri Enterprise Administration
