Purpose of Position
Provide leadership, direction, and hands-on support in assigned production areas at the Veeder-Root factory. The supervisor will optimize Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, Productivity, and Cost Control through tactical execution using Daily Management, Problem Solving, and Kaizen. This role includes mentoring and guiding hourly associates and championing continuous improvement by initiating and planning Kaizen events in alignment with Vontier Business System (VBS) methodologies. The supervisor will also develop and implement corrective actions to address gaps in Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) using a structured problem-solving approach.
Key Responsibilities
โ€ข Manage 30 to 40 hourly associates performing the following duties daily: time and attendance; vacation planning; administering discipline, ensuring adherence to Company policies and the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), ordering of production supplies; and production planning.
โ€ข Respond promptly to Safety incidents and injuries with a high sense of urgency including immediately putting in place containment actions, driving to root cause using the investigation process and implementing corrective actions.
โ€ข Achieve operational performance targets while adhering to the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and Company policies.
โ€ข Collaborate with the Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) to resolve grievances and administer disciplinary actions related to CBA and policy violations, including safety, conduct, productivity, and quality.
โ€ข Partner with Quality and Manufacturing Engineering to respond appropriately to quality issues including putting in place containment actions, driving to root cause using the problem-solving process and implementing countermeasures.
โ€ข Assign manufacturing work centers focusing on the cost control of manufacturing including variances, labor efficiency and utilization, work center rates and expenses.
โ€ข Lead with discipline and take ownership of the execution of Daily Management in one or more production areas to positively impact performance relative to Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory and Productivity.
โ€ข Coordinate with Material Planning, Production Planning, and Customer Service to ensure that labor and overall capacity matches future demand forecasts.
โ€ข Execute assigned tasks related to Policy Deployment (PD) objectives and achievement of KPI targets.
โ€ข All other duties as assigned by Focus Factory Manager and Senior Management.
Qualifications:
Background and Skills
โ€ข 2 or more years of leadership experience required, front-line supervision in a manufacturing environment preferred.
โ€ข Bachelor's Degree, Business or Engineering major preferred.
โ€ข Knowledge of and experience in the Toyota Production System, Lean Manufacturing, or other Continuous Improvement System including exposure to and use of problem-solving methodologies such as "5 Whys" and/or Six Sigma.
โ€ข Strong data analysis and reporting skills
โ€ข Experience in a unionized manufacturing environment is preferred.
โ€ข Proficient in Microsoft Office; advanced skills preferred.
โ€ข Basic understanding of financial concepts.
โ€ข Above average Mechanical aptitude required.
โ€ข Relevant experience in materials-related functions such as procurement and planning preferred.
โ€ข Relevant experience in quality-related functions and methodologies such as customer defect tracking/resolution, FMEA and control plan execution preferred.
