Job description

General Job Description

The Campus Store Manager plays a vital role on our partners’ campuses.  They are Slingshot employees, but we want them to be integrated into the campus community. A manager needs to be able to communicate with and foster relationships with leadership on campus while also serving students and faculty.   We want managers to be the on-campus point of contact for anything related to course materials. Managers are advocates on campus and the link between the school and our company. A manager’s job is busy with books, merchandise, meetings, and student workers but there are ebbs and flows that follow the higher ed calendar. We have times where things are very busy and times that are quiet.  The stores have regular hours, but we do expect stores to open for special events like homecoming, graduation, some sporting events, and other on campus events.

We are seeking candidates who excel in a fast-paced setting and can handle a heavy workload during peak seasons. During busy periods, managers are expected to lead a team in fulfilling hundreds of orders while consistently meeting daily targets. Our managers need to be focused on customer service but also have grit and a great problem-solving ability. We are looking for candidates who can see how and why the processes work while also paying attention to the small details of the daily operation. Successful managers thrive on relationships and like to have fun amidst chaos. Finally, the ideal candidate is open to learning, can think quickly, delegate, and take ownership of the store.

Role Function

As a member of the management team, you will be responsible for:

  • Setting a positive tone and being an example of service, hard work, and creative problem-solving in a way that builds rapport with customers
  • Providing direction to the store team and performing the duties of any team members role in their absence.
  • Understanding the unique specifics of the institution, without compromising our core values of character, relationship, and innovation.
  • Overseeing the daily operations in textbook sales, gift and merchandise sales, as well as campus mail operations.
  • Maintaining store stock and appearance through creative displays and merchandising
  • Operate and troubleshoot all store-related services, equipment, and programs.
  • Oversee and assist with processing order, receiving textbooks, and general merchandise

Company Profile

Slingshot is a course material subscription service with the mission to provide all books for all students at an affordable price by the first day of class. The store teams are the link between Slingshot and the campus. While we are a “third party” entity, our goal is to engage the campus from within and we strive to integrate the Slingshot culture within our campus partners. Each team member has a defined role, but collaboration is an integral part of who we are. We often partner with other team members or campus representative to create unique solutions. We are looking for team members who desire to engage the campus community while furthering the culture and values of both Slingshot and the institution. Our team positions often require flexibility and adaptability in scheduling and function to serve the campus well. Team members often step in to fill whatever role is needed as we see something that needs to be accomplished. As we continue to grow and develop, we are constantly making small adjustments to provide the best service possible and desire team members who can adjust with us. Finally, we are seeking team members who place a high value on teamwork, innovation, and character development. Each team member should have a strong desire to serve our campus community in developing the next generation of leaders.
