What does a GI Clinic RN do?

A GI Clinic RN, or Gastrointestinal Clinic Registered Nurse, specializes in providing care to patients with digestive system disorders. They assist gastroenterologists during procedures like endoscopies and colonoscopies, monitor patients before, during, and after procedures, and provide education about GI conditions and treatments. GI Clinic RNs also administer medications, manage sedation, and respond to patient needs or emergencies. Their role is essential in ensuring patient safety, comfort, and understanding throughout their treatment.

What are some of the typical daily responsibilities for a GI Clinic RN, and how do they collaborate with other healthcare providers?

A GI Clinic RN’s daily responsibilities typically include patient assessments, preparing patients for endoscopic procedures, administering medications, and providing pre- and post-procedure education. Collaboration is essential—RNs often communicate findings, relay concerns, and help develop care plans alongside the GI team, making teamwork and strong communication skills crucial in this fast-paced clinic environment.
